He began to power inside me, over and over again, and I met him thrust for thrust, desperate to get closer, to make this moment last an eternity or longer.

As I dragged him down for a ravenous kiss, a quiver began deep inside, then grew to a massive quake, one that shook me from the inside out, that swelled until it seemed it might shatter the world, then hung there, for endless, breathless moments.

The world disappeared in an explosion of light and in that moment, nothing existed but the two of us and the desperate, shattering quake that rolled us beneath its powerful, endless waves.

Long moments passed as I lay there, pulse throbbing in tune to the tiny aftershocks that constantly rippled through me, causing my core to flutter around him.

Jahrdran’s weight settled more fully over me, his fangs buried in my neck, his heart pounding in sync with my own. His cock stretched me to overflowing still, its knot swollen to almost unbearable proportions.

I sifted the fingers of one hand through his hair, scratching his scalp with my nails, while stroking my other hand up and down his back in a slow caress, reveling in the feel of my mate.

Slowly our heartbeats settled to a more normal rhythm and our breathing evened out.

Still, the knot remained, locking him inside me.

“Jahrdran,” I murmured his name, so thankful he’d come back to me.

As if the sound of my voice broke some sort of spell, he stiffened in my arms, then unclamped his jaws from my neck, his fangs retracting slowly.

He sucked on the wound there for a moment, sealing it closed with his saliva, then pushed himself up.

We were still locked together, so he didn’t try to extract himself, but he definitely seemed to want some distance.

“Jahrdran?”

A muscle twitched along his jawline, then he slowly lowered his head so our eyes met.

“What is it?” I reached up to brush his hair out of his eyes, but he jerked his head to the side at the last minute and I allowed my hand to fall at my side, a strange clenching around my heart catching my breath and holding it hostage.

“This was a mistake.” His voice was rough and gravely and pain-filled.

His unhappiness at what he was saying was as clear as mine, so why was he insisting on saying it?

“It wasn’t,” I said emphatically. “We’re fated mates. We’resupposedto be together.”

He shook his head. “My oath is telling me to kill you right now. That you’re vulnerable and this is the moment to strike. Ithurtsto resist.” He glared down at me, as if I was somehow responsible for his suffering.

I suppose, in a way, I was.

“I’m sorry, but we’ll figure it out.”

He shook his head. “No, Kasi, we won’t.” He slowly pulled out, his knot having finally subsided, perhaps in response to the oath’s resurgence, and climbed off me.

He stalked toward the door.

“Wait. Aren’t we going to talk? Make a plan?”

“The only plan I have is to avoid you,” he snarled, reaching for the door.

“Don’t you think you should get dressed first?”

He yanked open the door and stormed through it, shifting into his beast as he went.

I jumped from the bed, yanked the sheet around me and hurried to the door. By the time I got there, he was nowhere to be seen.

CHAPTER11

Two days later,Jahrdran plopped down next to me in the cafeteria. He straddled the bench so he was facing me.
