Mac captured her in his arms and pulled her against his chest. She could feel his heart pounding in his chest.

She wanted to cry again for almost making the biggest mistake of her life. But then, a question came to her mind.

She took a deep breath, her fingers lightly tracing the lines of his shirt as she searched for the right words.

“Mac, how did you know I had a profile on that dating app?”

Mac’s hand stilled on her back, and she could tell he was holding his breath. There was a long pause before he spoke again.

“Umm…Well, you see…Fuck, okay, here’s the truth. My contact in the FBI called me when he heard you had resurfaced. I was ready to jump on a plane to New York as soon as I knew. But I had this huge contract I was working on and had to take care of it. So, while I was out of the office for a few days dealing with that, I had Adam, my tech guy, do some research.”

“Okay, but that doesn’t answer my question. How did you know about the app.”

“I…well…goddammit! Adam sort of hacked into your computer, and that’s where he found it.”

Jessie sat up and looked at him. She wanted to laugh because big bad Mac looked like a puppy who had just eaten the furniture and was waiting to be scolded.

He ran his knuckles down her cheek. “I’m sorry, sunshine. I was desperate.”

She tried to be angry at him for poking his nose where it didn’t belong. But looking at him and seeing that cute guilty look on him almost had her crashing her lips onto his. But then he brought out the big guns, using the nickname he had given her when they first met. Only he called her sunshine.

She took his hand into hers. “How about a compromise,” she offered, and he quirked his eyebrow.

“A compromise?”

She nodded.

“Yes. Obviously, there were a few misunderstandings on both of our parts. So, how about we forgive each other?”

His beautiful lips curved up into the biggest smile.

“I think that is a great idea. I’m sorry for not being here for you when you needed me the most. I’m sorry for making you think that I had forgotten about you. And I’m sorry for invading your privacy.”

She smiled. “I can’t accept your apology for the first one.” When she saw he was about to interrupt her, she put her finger against his lips. “I can’t accept it because you did nothing wrong. You were doing your job, Mac. It was just the way the cards fell. And since you were working, I can’t really hold the second one against you either. But I do accept your apology for the last one.” She paused and took a deep breath. “And I’m sorry for not having faith in you or us for that matter and assuming the worst instead of just asking. And I’m sorry for signing up for this date thing. However, if we are technically blaming anyone, I blame Lacie because she is the one who signed me up. I also want you to know that I did try calling you last night. But it said yournumber was disconnected. And when I tried your office, I was told you wouldn’t be back until next week. I guess I know why now.”

Mac brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. “I forgive you. But before I leave tonight, I’m making sure that you have my new number saved in your phone.”

The feeling of his hands on her was driving her crazy. Every little touch created a flutter in her belly that she had missed feeling. Only Mac could make her body feel and react the way it was. Something about him would just kick-start her libido.

She had to bite her lip as images of their past lovemaking played in her mind. Mac was an amazing lover who enjoyed control in the bedroom, which didn’t bother her. Having a dominant man take charge of her sexual desires was somewhat of a relief for her. She was always so stressed between life and work that it was a nice break to clear her mind and let someone else take control. But he always knew just what she needed. And boy, did he deliver. He knew how to play her body and bring out every desire she had.

“Jess?” Mac called her name.

“Huh?” she asked, looking up at him.

“I asked you a question,” he said with a grin.

He did? Damn, she needed to pay attention. But how could she when he was touching her? Hopefully, he couldn’t tell that she had been thinking about all the naughty things they used to do.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, she shook her head and smiled at him.

“I’m sorry. My mind was somewhere else. What did you ask me?”

He appeared to bite the inside of his cheek as if trying to hide that sexy smile of his.

“I had asked what your plans are now that you’re back?”

Jessie hesitated, her mind torn between the life she had returned to and the possibilities that lay ahead. “I honestly don’t know. I mean, I’m the Chairman and CEO of the firm.,” she replied, feeling confused by her own words as her thoughts drifted to Mac’s life in Florida. “But your company is in Florida?”
