Mac ripped his shirt off and stuffed it under her to try and stop as much of the bleeding he could.

“The paramedics are here,” Kendra shouted.

“Send them in here,” Tink told her.

As two medics made their way in and started to assess her injury, she could tell by their expressions that the outlook wasn’t favorable for her.

“Tink?”

“Yeah, sweetie, I’m right here.”He pushed her hair from her face, and when she blinked her eyes open, she saw the worry on his face. She couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. This isn’t how she wanted to go. She was supposed to marry the love of her life in two days. They were supposed to have babies and grow old together. She still had her family and her new family that she hadn’t got to know yet. She made a deal with herself that if she survived, she would keep in touch with Kendra and Kara. She couldn’t hold them responsible for something their mother did.

“There is so much I want to say right now,” she told Tink.

“Alex, don’t you dare start talking nonsense right now.”

She shook her head. “I don’t feel too good.”

She squeezed Tink’s hand as she tried to focus on him. “I’m scared, Tink.”

“Alex, please, sweetie. Don’t talk like this.”

“This is life, Tink. You of all people should understand.”

His watery eyes nearly did her in.

“Alex.”

“Tink, please. Promise me that you’ll tell my Derek and Ace that I love them.”

“No, baby, I’m not going to tell them. You are.Don’t give up, Alex. Fight goddamn it!” Tink looked up at Mac, and Mac gave him a grim look.

Another paramedic slid a backboard in, and between the four men, they carefully got her strapped to it on her side.

“She needs a hospital right now. She lost a lot of blood, and her blood pressure is steadily declining.”

Tink tried to speak, but he choked on his words.

Just as they started to move her, Alex screamed as a searing pain tore through her body that took her breath away, sending her reeling into what seemed like another world—a world filled with bright white light and silence. It was peaceful.

CHAPTER NINE

Ace, Derek, Frost, and Stitch rushed into the emergency room and were greeted right away by Tink, who led them through a set of double doors to a private waiting room.

As soon as Tink called and said that Alex was trapped, Derek pulled some strings and got the four of them on a flight out to San Diego.

Ace didn’t like the fact that Tink kept quiet. Nor could he take his eyes off the blood staining Tink’s shirt.

“Any news since the last update?” Derek asked.

Tink shook his head. “No. She’s still in surgery.”

As they entered the room, Ace noticed another man standing by the window. As the guy looked up and put away his cell phone, he walked toward them.

“Derek Connors.”

“Damn, Mac Ramsey, is that you?”

They hugged and slapped each other on the back.
