I watched as another thirty minutes passed on the clock. I felt the uneasiness start to dial up in my body. I reached for my phone and considered calling at least five times before I sat it down. At 7:42 was finally when my phone began to ring. It was Prince.

“Hello,” I tried to keep the attitude from creeping into my voice.

“Hey, beautiful. It’s going to be a little later than I thought.”

“Clearly,” I snapped, looking at the dinner I had prepared. I pinched the bridge of my nose entirely out of the mood now.

“I get that. I deserve that,” he spoke, irritating me even further because he didn’t argue, but that was Prince. He never argued with me. He justgave me space to feel.

“What happened?”

“A couple of the guys had an accident on one of the balconies. I had to stay and do some paperwork before going to the hospital and checking on them.”

“Hospital? What happened?” I sat up straight hearing that.

“They were fucking off, not being safe like they know to do, and sliced their hand open, trying to hold on, trying not to fall.”

“Wow. It must have been one of the new guys.”

“It was. Now we are down two men because I had to let the other one go.” I could hear the stress in his voice.

“Well, it’s late now. Are you on your way?”

“Can you come to me?” That meant no. I clutched the receiver. “Le Monroe, you hear me talking to you?” The octave his voice dropped to told me he was not trying to play fair. The last thing I wanted to do was be wrapped up in anything work related at this hour after my long day, but damn, did I miss him.

“Yes,” I almost purred.

“A car is already on its way to you. I want to show you what I have been working on.”

“Okay,” I replied simply.

“I miss you.”

“I hear you.”

“Well let me show you when you get here. We have plenty of rooms to choose from.” A quake passed through my body. He disconnected. I jumped up from the chair. I couldn’t wear this. The black, barely-there fabric that had only the most intimate parts covered was not how I was going to sit in the back of a car. I walked to my closet, and another idea hit me. I pulled down a sexy black dress and slipped it over the lingerie. Even though my feet were killing me, I slipped a pair of Doctor Scholls in my red bottom heels, and I was ready when the car pulled up to the front door.

My driver greeted me and opened my door with a tip of his hat. The thirty-minute drive was filled with silence and longing. I was not used to these feelings, and I didn’t want them to overtake me. For the first time that I could remember, I cared about a relationship and where it went.

The hotel was still lit up when we pulled to the front of it, and the best part was that as soon as I pulled to the curb, Prince was there waiting for me. He had on a different set of clothes than the ones he left home with. I tried to quiet the alarms that were ringing in my head. This is a hotel he has full access to, and he hasfull access to anyone who is willing to share a bed with him.

“Damn, I’m underdressed. You must have known I was going to do something special for you.” A smile spread across his face. He wasted no time pulling me into a hug. He tilted my chin up to him and kissed me deeply right there on the sidewalk. He didn’t come up for air until he got enough. The kiss made me dizzy, and I remembered everything I wanted to do tonight. I was not going to let my crazy inner voice rob me of that.

“Come on. Let me show you what I been working on,” he spoke as we walked toward the hotel. He let me walk in front of him slightly and when I looked back his eyes were roaming my body hungrily. I blushed with excitement. A few seconds around him and my attitude was already melting away.

“Wow,” I said as we entered the foyer. In the center, the hotel’s design was etched into the floor. What was once a mundane brown color now lay pearly white tiles intricately woven together. My heels clicked against the floor, and the emptiness of the building made it echo louder than I was ready for.

“Wait, Prince, is anyone else here?”

“No, it's just my crew that is working on this. The grand opening is three weeks away, and to help us work better, they allowed us to stay here.”

“Makes sense.” I nodded. He looped his hand in mine when we landed in front of the elevator. Silently we rode up. So much was swirling through my head. All the things I needed to do to prepare for tomorrow being at the top. I don’t know what time Prince planned on getting home, but if he wanted me stretched out all around the rooms, I would be.

“How was your day? Cairo’s sister called him today while he worked. She said she loved everything.”

“Really? I’m so happy she did.”

“I knew she would.” He pushed the door open.
