His nods were non-stop as Rukem realized he still hadn’t mentioned the image of him kissing Sophie. “Tell me what you thought of that image Maggie drew. The kiss.”

“With Sophie?” he asked, clearly unbothered.

“Yes.”

He propped an ankle on his knee, staring before him then back at him. “Metaphorical.”

“You sound positive.”

“I am. She would never kiss another man, she belongs to me. I have no doubt of that.”

Lucky bastard. “I would never kiss Sophie,” he said, wanting him to know that just as emphatically. “So, I agree.” He faced him, ready to move to the next problem. “What if I do decide to…put my dick in it. I need help with that. Not the technical aspects but the…stuff books don’t cover.” At the look on his face, he panicked. “Youmusthavesomeinformation on this.”

“I’ve been celibate, King.”

“But notforever.”

“I’ve had sex three times in my life. Once when I was sixteen, and twice when on tour. At sixteen, I orgasmed two strokes in.”

“Oh God,” he muttered, doom circling. “And on tour?”

He shrugged with a useless look at the air. “Didn’t do anything, they did everything. I just laid there and took the sexual mauling like a soldier.”

“What about your other brothers? Is thereanybodywe can inquire of these things?”

“I don’t think it’s actually necessary, King.”

Like hell it wasn’t. “And why not?”

“Because…when it’s with the right person, it comes naturally.”

Rukem eyed him, suspiciously. “Who told you this? The Bishop’s wife? The Bishop? ”

“No, I just…” he eyed him. “Don’t you feel what needs to happen? I mean…I can see everything I want to do and exactly how I want to do it.”

“But you’ve never done it,” he said. “What if it doesn’t execute the way your brain paints the picture? What if she does something to change the picture your brain created?”

He shook his head with a chuckle. “I think you’re overthinking this.”

Rukem stood again, feeling his eyes follow him.

“What about all this other stuff?” Ace asked.

“What about it,” he muttered. “You’re sure, they’re sure, but I’m not sure.”

“And the coin? What do you think EGO means? You feeling anything at all with it? Hunches? Gut instincts?”

“Not a damn thing.”

“If we’re supposed to be a team, maybe we need to let the women in on this,” Ace seemed to realize.

Rukem snapped his gaze at him, his legs still strolling him in malformed circles.

“I mean, maybe some of these answers are supposed to be figured out by…certain people? Just spit-balling,” he muttered. “I know you don’t want to force a romance but…we’re in a kind of a predicament with needing to figure this out.”

“And then figure out what we’re supposed to do once we figure it out,” Rukem added.

“Darby may do things out of obligation but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want it. In fact, maybe the obligation is what she needs to hide behind.”
