Justin Spalding's Family

Jesus Christ. What the fuck are the odds that Bodie would have fallen in love with Jolie? That Jolie's cheating ex-boyfriend is the one who saved his life by donating his heart? Is this why he's so attracted to Jolie when she wasn't his type before? Or why he's been craving onion rings since he healed up from his surgery and was able to eat real food?

Motorcycles came well before his heart transplant, so that's not something he earned from Justin. And he loves steak eventhough he's had to cut back on it. That's another thing that doesn't seem to be Justin-related. But he has been eyeing up Lex's Mustang ever since he came to live with her and Colt when he never really cared about cars before. He'd sometimes go into the garage just to look at it and consider asking her to let him take it out for a drive.

Jolie's keys jingle in the door, and he hurries into the bedroom to shove the letter into his sock drawer. When he walks out, she beams at him, and he wonders how the hell he tells her this new revelation.

Knocking on the door that he used to walk right through feels weird to Bodie, and he stands on the front porch. His hands shake at his sides, and he waits for an answer.

"Bodie?" Colt asks, opening the door. "Since when do you knock?"

"I didn't know if I should just walk in. It's kind of late. Can I come in?"

Moving aside, the large man with his hair tied back holds the door open for him to walk through. "What's up?"

"Is Lex here, too?"

"She's asleep with a headache."

His eyebrow lifts. "And you didn't try and fix her headache for her?"

"Oh, I did. It didn't work, though," he says with a chuckle. "What's up?"

"I have a problem."

"And you came to us?"

Well, he came to talk to Lex, but Colt will do. He's got to be wise by proxy, right? "Yeah."

"I'd wake her up, but I don't think that would go well for her."

"What's the deal with her and Venom? I never circled back to ask you about it that night he showed up here to talk to her. Are they... friends?"

Laughing, Colt nods. "Yes, they are."

"Why?"

"That's my wife for you. No one understands but her. She sees things in people no one else really sees, and it worked out well for me. Most people see me as an asshole until they see me with her. And she knew the real me before I did."

"But whyhim?"

The idea that the aloof, crazy man no one else really seems to like and barely tolerates would be someone Lex finds herself in a friendship with baffles Bodie.

"Like I said, she sees things in people the rest of us don't right away. There are some of the craziest people in the club you'd never think she'd be friends with, and BAM! It's like they become different people. People we didn't know they could be. Plus, I think Venom reminds her of Psycho."

"I can see that. I also don't really get that friendship."

"Dude, it's best if you just stop trying to figure it out," Colt says. "Trust me, you'll drive yourself crazy before you realize you just have to accept it as who she is. It's part of why she works so well with the club. She can bring out the best or the worst in people, and it's usually needed to be seen."

He's probably right. Even so, he's going to keep an eye on Venom. Something about him doesn't sit well with Bodie, and he doesn't want Lex to get hurt. Just like she has maternal instincts, he has protective ones as well. Not necessarily son-type, but close enough.

"What's the problem, son?" Colt asks, joking as they sit in the kitchen.

"I have a thing."

Lifting an eyebrow, he leans back. "Please don't ask me to take a look at something I don't want to see."

"What? No!" Bodie exclaims but lowers his voice when he realizes everyone else in the house is asleep. "Not like that."
