He doesn't seem to get the hint and follows quickly after her. "How do you know?"

"I'm not the only one who knows, Nelson. But if you must know, I realized it when I saw you and Sutton at the bar."

"You don't go to the bar."

Placing her stuff in the backseat of her car, she slams the door shut and looks at him. "I went looking for Marnie, but she wasn't working. I was going to ask her if she knew why Sutton suddenly stopped talking to me. I was worried I did something to upset her, but when I saw you two together, I realized it."

"Are you jealous?"

"No."

"Why not?"

A loud sigh escapes her, and she crosses her arms under her small chest. "Are you jealous of the guy I'm dating?"

"If I said yes?"

"I'd say you're an idiot."

"Fuck you."

"No, fuck you, Nelson. You're not jealous that I'm with someone else. You're pissed that I moved on and didn't sit around thinking I made a terrible mistake letting you go. But if you are truly jealous, which I can't think of why you would be because we were terrible together, you're an ass for moving on with Sutton. She doesn't deserve that."

This seems to affect him, and he nods. "I'm not jealous of the guy you're with."

"I think Sutton's good for you. She suits you better, and she won't put up with shit from you. You need someone who willfind that balance of not putting up with your shit but also being a comfort for you."

"You never did that."

"No, I didn't. I couldn't. We didn't work, but more than that, we didn't fit."

His eyebrows wiggle. "We did fit in some respects."

"Not really, but sex is all we had. I hope it's not just about sex with Sutton."

"It's not," he admits.

"Good. Because she's not the type of girl who does that. And I know she's going through something with her dad situation, so you need to make sure you're there for her. I don't want to piss you off, but you need someone to point out how selfish you can get. Self-centered and think the world revolves around you. She'll probably need you, and you need to be there for her in a way you never could for me."

"Oh, good, getting dating advice from my ex-girlfriend. I'll be sure to listen to that."

A car pulls into the lot, and Sutton walks over to them. "Hey, guys."

Daphne looks at the brunette, who looks nervous. "Hey, Sutton."

"What's going on?"

"Nelson and I are just catching up on what's been going on in our lives. I finished Dax's memorial tattoo, and I have a new boyfriend. Someone waiting for me, actually, so I should get going."

"I've been meaning to call you back, Daph. I just..."

She smiles at her. "Don't worry about it. I know. About you two."

"Do you hate me?"

Laughing, Daphne shakes her head. "Not at all. I think it's good. I'm happy if you both are happy. Which probably makesNelson unhappy, but that's just another reminder that we were never good together."

"Thanks, Daphne."
