His heart drops. "You found something Justin hid from you, didn't you?"

"I found somethingshe hid. Plural. Most of them being skinny blondes with light eyes and no figures aside from fake tits."

Bodie leans forward, his elbows on the table. "What?"

"He had three phones. No, four phones. Three other phones. All the same, and I had a suspicious feeling when I found them. Because who has more than one phone?"

As much as he doesn't want to, Bodie lifts his hand. "I have burner phones for work stuff."

"Yeah, he didn't do the whole outlaw lifestyle like you do," she says. "He was a personal trainer. And he was giving a lot of personal attention to the blondes. I don't know why that bothers me the most. They're all fucking blonde."

"What'd you find in the phones?"

"Texts. And a lot of naked pictures exchanged between them, which is how I know they're blonde."

His eyebrows lift. "Was it just, like, phone sex stuff?"

"No, they met up. Or at least, they seem to have because they talked about how great it was when they got together. Always the same motel here in town. Right under my nose, and I never saw anything."

"Because you trusted him."

"Girls are supposed to have a sixth sense about this, right? I never suspected a thing. He was so good at hiding things."

Standing, he moves to hold her, but she holds a hand out to stop him. "Jolie-"

"I just need some physical space right now because I'm getting into the angry stage of this," she says, her eyes closing as she inhales deeply. With one swift swing of her hand, she sends the wine glass crashing against the wall. "Why even propose to me? We were planning a wedding! How far was he going to take all of this?"

Bodie's eyes stare at the spilled wine and smashed glass. "I don't know. I have ideas and theories, but I don't know the man."

"What are they?"

"The one that feels the most natural to me is that he did truly love you, but he wasn't one who could stick with just one woman. A guy doesn't usually propose and plan a wedding with a woman he doesn’t really love. Not unless he's total scum, and you wouldn't have trusted scum, Jolie."

Her lip quivers, and she looks up at him. "The relationship I thought was so amazing... the relationship I thought was a once-in-a-lifetime type of love turned out to be nothing but lies. He led me on, thinking we had this great relationship for so long that I didn't want to live without him. We met because I tried to jump off a fucking bridge to be with him. And for what? So, I can watch him with all the busty blondes he found up in heaven or hell or wherever we both ended up?"

"There were still good times, baby. It wasn't all a lie, but I understand why you feel that way. But I just have this strong feeling he did care about you. He just wasn't someone who could settle for just one woman for the rest of his life. I've known plenty of those guys."

"Are you one of them?"

The question catches him off-guard. "No. I'm a one-woman man. Always have been."

She pauses after he answers before asking, "Why only blondes?"

"If Ihadto guess, probably because the other brunettes couldn't hold a candle to you," he says. "In my opinion, no one can hold a candle to you, but it says something that he was only with women who didn't look the same as the one he was engaged to."

Jolie sniffles and shakes her head. "Yeah, it says that I wasn't what he really wanted. He wanted a blonde with no figure and fake tits. No ass, either."

"You're beautiful."

"No, I'm not."

"Yes, you are. You're gorgeous. You have eyes that are so pretty it's not even fair for other women out there."

Crossing her arms, she looks at him suspiciously. "You're telling me that you don't think Lex's eyes are gorgeous? She's the perfect blonde with blue eyes."

Bodie can't suppress the shudder. "Sure, they're pretty, but they're not yours. And I don't want to ever compare you to Lex again. She's like a mom, and it's kind of creepy."

"She's not that much older than you."
