"Oh, I also missed a step. Colt fucked up somehow, and when she was kidnapped, they weren't together. It took like three or four days to find her and a few others that got taken."

She can't even imagine what that had to be like for her. "Jesus."

"Then, this is where it gets even crazier, and you know she's a badass."

"What?"

"A Slasher broke into her house, and she killed him in the kitchen with a fucking knife."

Hannah ran over a Kingsmen member when he tried to kill Mac, but Kara can't imagine what it would be like to have to kill someone, especially with a knife. That's close quarter combat.

"She killed for the club?"

"She killed to save her life, actually. But I don't think it was the first time. Rumor has it, she was the one who had the idea about how to fix the Slasher problem. She's here, though, because she needed to take a step back from the club. I can't fucking blame her."

"She is pretty hardcore, huh?"

Chance smiles, his short brown hair recently buzzed. "Drifter women are known to be badass for the most part," he says and kisses her jaw. "They do what's needed for the club."

His mouth claims hers, and his kisses send desire through her as she thinks about what he said. They do whatever needs to be done for the club. If she finds herself in a position to do something scary, can she?

The desire she feels takes her by surprise. It's been a fight to get up in the mornings after Dani died, and something seemed to snap this morning. It's probably why Chance can't keep his hands off her. She kind of feels like a new version of herself.

Her boyfriend hasn't been denied anything he wants, but she hasn't been overly excited to have him climb on top of her for the past two years. It was always going through the motions, and even though she loves him with all her heart, it was hard to dig herself out of the hole she felt trapped in. Until today.

"Wanna get out of here?" Chance asks, and she shifts, feeling his need.

"Come on, baby," she says, taking his hand.

They walk outside, and unmistakable panting catches her attention. Looking around, neither sees anyone, but it's clear someone's there.

"Who’s there?" Chance calls, his voice deep and loud.

Kara loves how sexy and protective Chance is. It's the reason she fell in love with him in the first place, and it's why she knows she'll only love him. He's large, tough, and masculine. For ten years, he's been her entire life.

"Calm down," Colt's voice calls out, and they hear two zippers.

Kara laughs, gaping as Lex and Colt walk into the light. "You guys left like fifteen minutes ago."

"Yeah, Colt struggles with the meaning of quick, not that I usually complain," Lex says, her hands combing through her curly hair.

"Well, the three separate bites on my shoulder as you came more than once should stop any complaints coming from you," Colt says, his arms wrapping around her waist.

"I guess you got me there."

Chance shakes his head. "Two kids make it difficult to get busy at home?"

Colt chuckles. "No, not really. But when the wife says she can't wait until we get home, I do what I can to make her body tremble."

"Lex, can I ask you something?" Kara asks.

Shrugging, she laughs. "Sure."

"Would you really do anything for the club?"

"Within reason," Colt says. "No doubt. Already has."

"Well, I think the reason part goes out the window, considering, you know, I've almost died more than once. But the club is in my blood. Even if I had to get away from Griffin's Beach for perspective, I'd do what I need to do. It's how I was raised," she says with another shrug.
