Their mouths don't separate as he uses only his hips to move, their bodies connecting as she rolls her hips to take him as deep as possible with every forward thrust.

She moans into his mouth as she squeezes him again, and he picks up his pace, finding his release seconds later, filling her.

Normally, he'd worry about pregnancy, but not right now. Right now, he's loving the three orgasms this beautiful brunette has had, and he falls onto the bed next to her.

"You have really good rhythm," she says, her body wrapping around his. "I wasn't sure what to expect from a man with a brand-new heart. I was kind of scared I'd put you into cardiac arrest."

Smirking, he kisses the top of her head. "Not a chance. I could go all night."

"Yeah? Is that a challenge?"

I fucking love the universe right now.

Chapter Nineteen

Summerville

Max

Daphne hasn't left Max's mind since she stormed out of the clubhouse after dumping his brother. Nelson says she hasn't attempted to reach out to him, either, and Max hopes she's officially done with him. As much as he loves Nelson, he was never good enough for Daphne.

It sounds cliché, considering he fell in love with his little brother's girlfriend. He's spent months pushing down the feelings for her, but he knows Nelson never loved her. He loved parts of her, but he never lovedher. And they had nothing in common. Not like Max and Daphne do.

He walks down the street as he tries to get the woman who is still off-limits out of his mind. He can't go after his brother's ex-girlfriend, can he? It wouldn't be right. No, Nelson would never forgive him, and he needs to put family first. Right?

The thought of being with Daphne, of her giving him a second glance and telling him she loves him just like he loves her, makes him ache in the worst way possible. He's making a bold assumption that she would have any interest in him, so it's likely a non-factor to debate whether or not he should be worried about going after his brother's ex.

The woman he shouldn't be thinking about comes barreling out of the building and runs right into him. Of course, he fucking walked right by her tattoo shop. She looks up in apology as tears threaten to spill.

Shit, is she crying because of Nelson? Is she wishing she'd done something other than break up with him?

"Oh, Max, I'm sorry," Daphne says, her hands wiping at her eyes as she looks away.

"What's wrong?" he asks, praying she doesn't say this has anything to do with his asshole brother.

Slapping her hands on her sides, she shakes her head. "My dad put his heart and soul into this shop. He's the reason I became a tattoo artist, and when he got sick, it almost killed him. When his stroke stopped him from doing what he loved, I honestly thought I was going to lose him."

"Is he okay?" Panic fills him, thinking she lost her father as well as her boyfriend.

"He's okay. Physically. But the medical bills started piling up, and he had little choice but to let an investment firm come in with a promise to keep it running."

"Daphne, I'm so sorry. That sucks."

Laughing as she wipes away more tears, she looks away. "It's worse. The guy they hired to run the shop is basically running it into the ground. Dad's lawyers ensured I couldn't be fired with the contracts they updated, and the new guy, Nick, seems to bedoing everything he can to make me quit. Not just me, but all of us."

Eyebrow lifting, Max looks at the building. "What's he doing?"

"What isn't he?" she asks with another humorless chuckle. "Shop fees that basically rob us of everything we earn. That is whatever, because I just lie to him, anyway. But the shit talking is what's ruining our reputations. And I don't understand why. If he lowers the value of the shop, it's not worth anything. He's killing the investors by putting them in the red instead of the black."

Something's going on. Max isn't a business expert, but he knows some. It sounds like Nick's trying to lower the value to have the place sold. If it's sold, many of the original contracts will be null and void, which means Daphne could lose her job along with her dad's shop. If the value isn't there, the investors won't want to keep it. He's got an angle, but Max isn’t sure why.

"Are you working now?"

"I needed a break. Nick makes me want to slit his throat, and I'm not sure how I'd fare in prison."

"Got anyone on the books?"

Daphne shakes her head. "No, my last two appointments canceled thanks to Nick, so I'm wide open and praying for walk-ins."
