“Zoe,” Spark says, his voice dropping to a low, intimate tone that makes my pulse quicken. He leans in closer, his dark eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that steals my breath. “A man like me would make sure you’re always satisfied.”

The words hang in the air between us and fuck, I don’t know how to take them.

CHAPTER ONE

Spark

Three Months Ago…

Her green eyes lock onto mine, and she doesn’t look away.

Not once.

I can see the flicker of interest, maybe even desire, dancing behind those eyes.

This is my chance.

Everyone else is caught up in their own worlds from watching the firework show.

It’s the perfect distraction.

“Always wondered what you look like naked,” I continue, my tone dripping with intent. “You’ve been a fantasy of mine for averylong time.”

She takes a big gulp from her drink, trying to hide the flush creeping up her neck. “This isn’t the right time to be telling me this,” she says, though her voice wavers just a bit.

“Why not?” I challenge, leaning in closer so that only she can hear me over the music and laughter surrounding us. “If you ask me, this is the best time to be tellin’ you.”

“When I just found Jacob cheating on me?” she admits, bitterness seeping into her words. “You think that’s the right time?”

“Oh babygirl, one night with me,” I whisper, leaning in closer. “and you’ll forget Jacob ever existed.”

She arches an eyebrow at me, a playful yet challenging glint in her eye.

Before she can respond, Turmoil claps me on the back so hard I almost spill my beer. “Time to stop your shift, brother. Go enjoy the party for a while,” he says before moseying his way behind the bar.

I grab a beer from behind the bar and walk around, keeping my gaze locked on Zoe.

She hasn’t moved an inch.

Her ex-boyfriend Jacob used to hover around her like a bad smell, but he’s out of the picture now and I’m happy as can be.

Good riddance—he was a piece of shit who never deserved her.

I lean in slightly, just enough to catch a whiff of her perfume. “You’re lookin’ good tonight, all things considered.”

It’s intoxicating, a blend of vanilla and something else that drives me wild.

“Thanks,” she replies, her eyes locked onto mine. There’s a fire there, smoldering beneath the surface. “You too.”

“Jacob really fucked up,” I remark casually, taking another sip of my beer.

“Yeah, well, he didn’t know how to treat a woman,” she says, bitterness lacing her words.

“I’m sure I could rock your world,” I murmur, staring at her luscious lips.

Her lips part slightly, and she takes a step closer, the space between us sizzling with unspoken promises.

That vanilla perfume mingles with the scent of summer night air, making my head spin in the best way possible. “And what makes you think you could handle a woman like me?” she shoots back, her tone both teasing and serious.
