“Special delivery for Miss Taylor” I say into both the intercom and phone.

“Very cute,” she says into the phone while she unlocks the front door and I make my way up the first flight of stairs.

Her apartment door is open with her mobile still in her hand. I rush to her and pull her into my arms as I kick the door shut with my foot. Resting my head in the crook of her neck, I hold on tight.

Reluctantly, pulling away, “These are for you,” I say, as I bring the flowers from behind her back. “I missed you…quite a lot.”

She closes her eyes and smiles while breathing in the scent of the roses in her hands. “I missed you too.” She looks up at me and asks, “Have you eaten?”

“Actually, I was going to ask if you’d be interested ingoing out to grab something to eat, but first, we have a meeting to get to.”

“A meeting? We have a meeting?” she asks with wide eyes.

“Yes, Mark?—”

“Your agent,” she interjects with a coy smile.

“Yes, that Mark reached out to meet with me today about the social media accounts and some requests the production company has for them. As you are the mastermind behind my new public persona, I thought you should be included. That’s if you’d like to be.” I’m not letting her out of my sight today. Even if this meeting was regarding another matter, she’d be coming with me.

“All right, let’s head to the meeting.”

Just as I had planned, the car I ordered with my usual driver is waiting outside her apartment. Lucy gets in and speaks with the driver. “Hi Tom, how was your Christmas?”

“Great, thank you, Lucy. And yours?”

“Better now that Mr. Brooks is in town.” She squeezes my hand and smiles.

Tom addresses me, “Good to see you again, Mr. Brooks.”

“Yes, and you too, Tom.” I look between the two before remembering that it was Tom who picked up Lucy and John on Christmas Eve morning to bring them back to the city.

The car makes it through the busy streets of London to Mark’s office. Lucy continues to hold my hand as we walk into the building. I can’t recall if I’ve ever held hands with someone for this long before, but I never want it toend. As we enter the lobby, I notice the front desk is empty.

Mark shouts and waves to us from his glass-wall office. “Come on back, Mary is off for the holidays.”

“As you should be, Mark. Is a quiet office really enough to come in on Boxing Day?” I ask.

“If you must know, I plan to take some time off, and my flight leaves tomorrow,” he shares, looking at his monitor. “So, I wanted to tie up some loose ends before I go.”

“That’s great, where to?” I ask.

Still not making any attempt to look up from his computer, “Somewhere warm.”

Fine, I suppose it’s his personal business. I clear my throat for his attention, “Mark, this is Lucy Taylor.”

Mark begins to look a little uncomfortable. “Nice to meet you, Lucy.” He finally looks up at her and asks, “Do you plan on staying for the meeting?”

I interject, “Mark, you mentioned this meeting is about my social media accounts. Lucy is the one behind all of them—she has been since the first post. Anything you have to say can be said in front of her.”

Mark stands and takes a deep breath, “Viewmont Productions marketing department called. They love what you’ve done with the accounts and how much you’ve engaged the audience before filming has even begun.”

“That’s great,” I say, but it’s clear there’s more as he’s looking everywhere but at Lucy.

“They are suggesting we use your accounts and popularity to make the fans part of the production experience. The idea isn’t just for you but also for theactor playing Mr. Darcy.” He pauses, his stalling is wearing on my nerves.

“What’s this idea?”

“With your new reputation as a romantic man, the production company wants to give fans a chance to win first-hand experiences in the world ofPride and Prejudice, even bringing them onto the sets…” He takes a deep breath.
