“Hey!” Hollis called.

Their attention snapped to where she stood and, all at once, time seemed to stand still as all attention focused on the Rosary that laid between them.

Hollis, who was closest, kicked it. The emerald Rosary caught in the light and sparkled green before it sailed over the edge and sank into the dark water below.

Tony elbowed Dylan in the face with a frustrated grunt and heaved himself up, turning the gun on Hollis.

“That wasn’t very smart. Now you can go in and get it.”

Hollis narrowed her eyes. “Why don’t you go get it?”

A muscle twitched in his cheek. Then, Tony lowered the gun into Dylan’s face. “Or, I can just shoot him.”

Shit. The color drained from Hollis’s face. “No, wait.” Her gaze drifted down to the dimly-lit water below where shadows swam through the depths. She swallowed back a lump of fear and looked at Dylan. “Okay.”

“No!” Dylan cried out.

“Shut up,” Tony said and kicked Dylan.

Hollis moved to the edge of the bridge, sat and swung her legs over.

“Hollis, no,” Dylan said and started to get up. There was no way in hell he’d let her go into that tank full of bull sharks.

At least not alone.

“I’ll cover you,” Dylan said.

Tony’s eyes narrowed as Dylan lifted his knife from its sheath.

“No. You stay here,” Tony said.

“If we both go, we have a better chance of finding it,” Dylan argued.

For a moment, Tony didn’t say anything. Then, he shrugged. “Fine. You wanna play hero? Go right ahead.” He stepped back and allowed Dylan to move next to Hollis. “I just want the Rosary.”

Dylan dropped down next to Hollis.

“You don’t have to do this,” she said.

Shoulder to shoulder, legs hanging over the edge, they both looked down into the deep water teeming with dangerous creatures. Dylan bumped her with his shoulder. “Let’s go down and get it, Doll.”

Hollis dipped her head, lowered her voice. “Stay close to the reef. We’re gonna swim across.” She nodded toward the far side of the tank.

Fuck,Dylan thought. It looked a mile away. But, if his girl had a plan then he was going to listen.

“Take a deep breath,” she whispered and laid a hand over his. Their fingers laced, hands squeezed.

Irritated by the whispering, Tony waved the gun at them. “Enough! Get in and you’re not coming out til you find it.”

With extreme care, trying not to make even the slightest ripple, they lowered themselves into the cool water. Then they exchanged a glance, sucked in a huge breath of air and disappeared beneath the surface with all the stealth of a Navy SEAL.

Ka-Bar at the ready, Dylan swam behind Hollis. When she turned to make sure he followed, her eyes widened in fear at the flash of his coin necklace. She pointed at her neck in a frantic gesture and Dylan realized her meaning. He ripped the necklace free and released it.

As the coin fell through the watery depths, its shine attracted a nearby shark. The large bull shark lunged for it, snapping its razor-sharp teeth, but the coin continued its descent and landed on the sandy bottom.

As Hollis guided them across the tank, they stayed low and as close to the rock formations as possible. Above them, schools of tropical fish, various sharks and stingrays swam.

Suddenly, Hollis spotted the Rosary, emeralds gleaming on a coral-covered rock. She swam lower, Dylan covering her with his knife, and scooped it up. Immediately, she shoved it back in her jacket.
