Nikki swallowed. André had a hookup who could do wood floors?

She’d been on a waiting list with a company for six months. Six months and she still didn’t have an appointment for an estimate.

Of all the things she could do on her own, refinishing wood floors was not one of them. There was a talent to it that had apparently been left out of her box of weird and unnecessary biological gifts she’d inherited from her father. Though he couldn’t do floors either, so maybe that gift was in a separate box entirely.

Johnny had the gift. He’d done his own townhome and the floors upstairs. But that was back before he was in a serious relationship with the legendary Ashton James and before he was producing award-winning albums for Sunshine Capone. His calendar was so booked at this point, every day was a pink highlighter day.

She would know.

She was the keeper of the calendar.

Which was exactly why Johnny didn’t know she needed her own floors done because he would already be there doing them. And the studio could not function without him.

But if André knew someone who could get to her floors sooner…

She shouldnotbe looking for more reasons to talk to or be around André.

Also, getting her floors done was starting to sound like a euphemism.

Her head swung around when Naked Raygun came from the speakers.

What was happening?

“Ty,” André greeted. “Hey, I have a floor that needs your expertise. What’s your weekend look like?” André’s light eyes flitted up to Nikki and back to the floor in question. “That’s right. The fundraiser.” He listened for a beat and then took his call out into the hall.

Well, it was probably too good to be true.

“I mean, I could do it, like I did the ones upstairs,” Johnny said.

Nikki made a face. “You don’t have time.”

See?

Johnny’s cheek twitched. “I could move some things around—”

“Johnny,” Nikki stopped him. “You don’t have time,” she repeated slowly.

He shrugged one shoulder.

André returned, no longer on the phone and a highly suspicious look on his face.

“My friend is going to stop by after work and look at the room.”

Nikki narrowed her eyes at him.

André scratched his forehead and cleared his throat. “From the photos I sent him, he thinks he can get it done in a couple days.”

“Whoa,” Johnny said. “That’s great. How much will it cost?”

André’s eyes bounced to Nikki and back to Johnny. He took a deep breath. “His firm bought a table at this benefit cocktail thing at the Field Museum. It’s to raise money for children and art, or artistic children. I don’t know. He’s been asking me for a while to fill one of the spots. So that’s the payment.”

Johnny arched his eyebrows. “Oh yeah. The studio was invited but we couldn’t afford an entire table.” He chuckled. “Wouldn’t have been able to fill it. So, you have to go to a fancy dinner and we get refinished floors?”

That was a logical question.

Because Johnny didn’t know how much André hated social events like that.

But she did.
