Funny.

Clever.

Ridiculous.

It was something he’d tried to forget. He’d even looked for it in others, but it wasn’t there. He’d only found that kind of easy connection with one other human.

When he was with her, he felt amazing.

She felt like home.

Which was saying something, because he’d never had a safe home. Not emotionally anyway.

And yeah, when he’d shown up at XY Records a few days ago, he’d been hoping to “win her back” or whatever that meant.

But at that moment, he knew he’d be content to just have her in his life in any capacity.

Was he still impossibly in love with her?

Yes.

And he would be forever.

But he could love her from whatever distance she would allow, and he’d still be better for it than when he was away from her.

The clarity that came with that realization rushed through him and he smiled.

He pulled into the back parking lot of the studio.

It was empty, which was to be expected since it was just after dawn.

He got his tools from the truck and went to the back door where he plugged in the security code Johnny had given him the day before.

The lounge was mostly cleaned out. He would start pulling up the carpet today and seeing what the floors looked like. They might not be anything they could use. But Johnny had mentioned installing hardwood if that was the case.

André agreed.

The carpet had to go.

From what he could tell, it was old bowling alley carpet. Hilarious. But it was so worn down it wasn’t functional anymore.

He flipped the lights on in the lounge and grimaced. He could replace those too. They weren’t adequate for the direction the studio was headed.

Johnny had given him a tour the day before so André might get a feel for how the place was growing and in what ways.

He glanced around, making a mental list of what he’d do, and in what order. Then he headed down the hall to Nikki’s office.

She deserved something functional and gorgeous.

This was not that.

What a mess.

How did she get anything done in this disaster?

He clicked his tongue as he surveyed the office.

Where to begin?
