“Thank you for getting us lunch. You may go now.” She waved him away with her uninjured hand.

Johnny coughed again and this time Justin joined him.

She almost felt bad. Being snippy wasn’t natural to her. But then she glanced up and saw his stupid handsome face and his stupid muscles and his stupid small smile and she decided that being a little snippy wasn’t so bad when he deserved worse.

André held her gaze and then he nodded slowly.

He didn’t say goodbye, he just left.

She should have felt relieved. Or satisfied at least. She’d gotten exactly what she’d wanted.

Right?

But all she felt was sad.

Apparently, she still had some healing to do.

Johnny handed her her food and she didn’t like that André had gotten her favorite. Or that he included utensils so she could eat it easier.

Nope.

It didn’t feel good to know that he’d remembered.

It felt awful.

Like breaking up all over again.

But she couldn’t say that because no one would understand. So she ate her food and acted like the avocado salsa was the reason her eyes kept watering.

But it wasn’t.

CHAPTERFOUR

OH WELL

ANDRÉ

Okay, new plan.

Don’t be a twat.

CHAPTERFIVE

INCINERATE

NIKKI

She wasn’t sure what she’d expected.

Of course, Ryan would take her to a baseball game since she’d missed the last one.

She hadn’t gone home to change her clothes and stayed in what she’d worn all day—gray, wide-leg linen pants, a boxy cropped pink tee with Janis Joplin on it, and Chucks with no laces so she could just slip them on and off. Her hair was down, and she’d only applied mascara. And even that had been annoying.

Her wrist wasn’t feeling too bad, so she’d ditched the sling and just wore one of those braces.

Her body wasn’t as sore that day. Plus, she’d found a bottle of ibuprofen on her desk when she’d gotten to work that morning. Probably from Johnny.

Ryan had picked her up from work, and when they made it to the stadium, she wasn’t even a little bit surprised.
