She went down the hall to where he’d beckoned. The door to her office was pulled closed behind him.

“Do I have to close my eyes?” she asked teasingly.

He took his time looking her over. “Hello,” he said, soft and careful.

“Hello,” she repeated.

“Would you like to see your new office?” he asked. Again soft, his voice low and almost seductive.

“Yes,” she whispered, feeling like she was saying yes to so much more.

His eyes flicked to her mouth and back to her eyes.

“Close your eyes,” he commanded gently.

She did.

For a moment, nothing happened. He didn’t move and neither did she and she wondered if maybe this time he just might—

He took her hand and electricity and warmth shot up her arm to her chest.

She closed her fingers around his and he tugged her forward.

After a few steps, he let go.

“Open your eyes,” he said from behind her.

Her office no longer looked like her office.

“How…?” She took a step further in and her words left her.

Everything he’d said he was going to do, he had done.

But seeing it was something else.

The window had been replaced and it let in so much light that the room was bright without the help of electricity.

The floor was a bright blond and covered by a thick rug that was a rich gray with copper swirls. One wall was navy and so was the ceiling. All the fixtures and ductwork had been converted to copper and they gleamed against the dark background.

Her new desk was long and sleek and stained the same color as the floors.

A cream-colored sofa sat against the wall with the window and it was covered in pillows and a dark blue throw.

And the pillows didn’t stop there. They spilled off the sofa and onto the floor.

“Where did everything go?” she asked, her voice soft because she was afraid that if she spoke too loudly, it would all disappear and she’d wake up.

He strode to the opposite side of the room where it looked like a bare wall painted navy. But, as she looked more closely, she could see grooves like wooden planks running vertically from top to bottom and covering the wall end to end.

André slipped his fingertips into one of the grooves and slid out a section of the wall. It had three evenly spaced shelves that were full of equipment.

He pushed it closed and pulled on the next groove. That one slid out to reveal four shelves with equipment.

“Shut up.” She put her hands over her mouth as she watched him pull out another one.

“All of them,” he said, indicating every vertical plank. “The last two are empty.”

“How did you do that? There’s not enough space in here for that.”
