“Actually, yes.” He shook his head, then started laughing. “Skittles, you amaze me sometimes.”

“In a good way?”

“Definitely in a good way. I don’t know how I went eight years without you.”

She patted his chest. “You certainly could’ve used my advice with Ms. Julia, the firefighter.”

He looked at her for a moment and wanted overwhelmingly to kiss her. She held his gaze, then looked away, and he took a step back.

“Probably need a little more tequila to go there.”

She sat down and he sat next to her.

She smiled. “Okay. Your turn.”

“Fine. But this is the last round. I’m not sure we can surpass that last dare. I’ll take a dare.

Jade picked up an unopened can of beer. “Shotgun this beer.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m not an idiot.”

“You don’t have to make a habit of it. It’s a onetime thing.”

“Have you ever shot gunned a beer?”

“No.”

He took another can from the pack. “I will if you will.”

“Okay. We’ll consider it my last turn.”

Sawyer dug into his pocket and pulled out a small pocket knife and his keys. She took the knife from him.

“How do we do this?”

“You poke a hole in the can, put your mouth over it, then open the can.”

“Then what happens?”

“The beer flows into your mouth at a rather fast pace. It gets you drunk faster. Which is probably something we don't need.”

“Sounds lovely.”

“Are you ready?” She nodded. “Okay, on three.”

He counted to three, and they both poked their cans, covered the hole, and opened the top. Jade squealed halfway through, pulled the can away and coughed as the beer poured down the front of her and onto the floor.

Sawyer finished his, then dropped his can and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

“That was…not that much fun.” He looked at her beer soaked coat. “More fun than the way you did it, though.”
