“And you want to tell him?”

She picked up her beer again. “I do. I just need you to tell me if it’s completely wrong of me to do.” She took a drink, then returned the bottle to the table.

He patted her hand, then let go of it. “You and Sawyer are really close. I haven’t seen too much of him, but hearing you talk about him, I know you’re connected.”

“We are. This weird twin thing is rather annoying sometimes.”

“So you know him better than anyone, right?”

“Yes.”

“If the situation were reversed, would you want him to tell you what was going on?”

She didn’t need to think about it. “Yes.”

“Well then, there’s your answer.”

“You think I should talk to him?”

“Yes. I don’t have a twin sister. Or any sister. But I was damn close to my brother. And if a situation like this had come up, I would’ve talked to him about it.”

Sage leaned toward Xander and hugged him. He didn’t seem to mind, and they held it longer than they should’ve considering they were just casual friends.

When she let go of him and sat back in her chair, she smiled at him. “I knew coming here was the right thing to do.”

“Would you feel that way if I had told you not to talk to him?”

She nodded. “Yes. Because I knew you’d be honest with me.”

He looked at her bottle of beer. “Time for you to be honest with me. You hate beer, right?”

Sage laughed. “Yeah. I kind of do.”

“So, when I come to your house for dinner to collect on my bet, what should I bring?”

“A bottle of wine would be nice.”

“I can do that.” He leaned back in his chair again. “Do you need any other advice while you’re here?”

“I think I’m good. What were you cooking when I knocked on your door?”

“Spaghetti. There’s plenty. Do you want to stay for dinner?”

“Hmm. I’m not quite ready to do that.”

“Okay.”

“Besides, I need to track down Sawyer while Jade is at work. I’ve barely seen him all week.”

“How upset is he going to be?”

“Extremely.” She stood. “And I need to get it over with before I chicken out.”

Xander got to his feet, too. “Good luck.”

“Thank you. And thank you for listening. And not judging my appearance today.”

“A beautiful woman is always beautiful, no matter what she’s wearing or when she last combed her hair.”
