“Yes,” she says, her tone hinting at some lingering shyness. “Of course, Imissed you.”

She gives me a tender kiss and my heart squeezes with unbridled affection.

Pulling away, she grabs my hand and I dutifully follow her into her bedroom. As soon as her door is closed and locked, I pin her to the wall, my hips grinding against hers, both hands on her face as if I’m always starving for any small morsel she can give me. A small sigh of satisfaction leaves her lips, her body melting into mine as both her arms wrap around my neck.

But after a few more heated seconds, it’s as if she remembers herself and gently pushes me off her. Inside, I feel like a snarling dog with a bone, but I relent and step back.

“There was actually a specific reason why I wanted you to come by,” she says.

As soon as the words are suspended in the air between us, she distances herself, walking toward her desk, and sits down.

Her body language has turned nervous, her movements slightly choppy as she waves for me to sit in front of her at the foot of her bed.

My mind immediately latches onto the obvious.

She’s about to end this.

My hands turn clammy, my heart beating faster.

I swallow hard.

“What’s up?” I say, in the most laid-back tone I can manage.

She chews on her thumb, her eyebrows dipped low. She opens her mouth to speak, then changes her mind, shooting me a nervous look. “I don’t know how to say it, so I’m just going to come out with it,” she finally blurts out.

I keep my mouth shut and brace myself for the worst.

“I want you to fuck me when I’m sleeping.”

My eyes go wide. “You want me to do what now?”

Her laugh is full of nerves. “Please don’t make me repeat it.”

I swipe a hand through my hair, trying to wrap my head around what James just said, especially when my assumption was so far off.

I pin her with a stare, eyes narrowing. “You mean like somnophilia?”

She lets out a small scoff and rolls her eyes, crossing her legs. “Was I the only one who didn’t know about this?”

I can’t help but chuckle. “Oh, princess.” Still, a small thrill zips through my chest at the subject matter. Intrigued and tempted.

“Don’t mock me,” she says in a playful tone, a shy smirk on her lips.

After a brief shared laugh, she falls serious again and begins to worry her bottom lip. “So, do you think this is something we could do … together?”

Admittedly, I’ve never given it much thought until now, but I can’t deny that the idea is a turn-on.

“Are you sure that’s something you’d want?” My words are carefully chosen, and full of concern. “Given what happened with?—”

She holds both her hands up, signaling me to stop. I close my mouth shut.

“That’s exactlywhyI want to explore this.”

Studying her, I stay silent for a beat, chewing on the implications of what she’s asking me.

She trusts me.

My chest swells with pride, and I try to tamper my reaction when I realize how important this moment is. James wouldn’t be asking me this if she still saw us asjustahookup. Maybe she’s still hiding under the safety of our friends with benefits label, but I can see beyond it.
