FIVE

One Year Later

My hand shielded thesunlight as I peered out at the blue tones of ocean. The scenery was everything I needed. I inhaled the fresh scent of water as the sun beamed down upon me and my wavy waves blew with the cool breeze. My toes dug into the sandy beach and curled into the warmth. I may live in the city, but the beach life was for me.

I scanned across the light blue of the ocean as the waves gently crashed ashore and mixed with the wet sand. The current pushed it up to reveal the many wonderful treasures one could find as people strolled along the beach. But my eyes wandered back out to the darker blue tones that didn’t rest and crashed within the water.

The jet skis whisked along the deep water, people parasailed from the sky above, motorboats whizzed past and sailboats slowly made their way across the ocean. It was a sight I could get used to and never leave, but Dylan had flown us away for the day on his private jet plane. I wasn’t sure how much time we had left.

Not much if dear daddy had anything to say about it.

I shook my head at the annoying thought and tried to push him out of my mind. I wanted to enjoy the day, but Daxon Stark haunted my thoughts with his demanding, wicked ways. No matter where I went or what I did, he was there. Ever since I followed this path in life, Dylan’s father was right there. Everything was always about the business and my fiancé helped run it.

I gazed down at my big diamond engagement ring and it sparkled with the light. The sun’s rays hit it from all angles and made it shimmer like the extravagant piece it was. I twirled it around on my finger because it moved easily with its gigantic size and peered out at my fiancé.

He strolled through the water near the shoreline as beads of wetness fell down his gorgeous body and dripped back into the ocean. His beach body mixed in magnificently with the scenery. His tanned skin made women beg to run their hands on it and ripped muscles from head to toe. He was everything any woman could dream of. Dylan may be a filthy rich businessman, but he was breathtaking, and he was all mine.

I smiled at the thought and knew he’d take care of me for the rest of my life once we spoke the words, “I do.” Since we left on our date and our only date, I had never looked back. I got to live an extravagant life full of money and whatever my heart desired. Dylan made it all happen and promised me to never work a day in my life. It was a far-fetched fantasy, and I was reluctant at first because I had my dream. I wanted to run my business one day, but I was afraid it might never happen. And there was Dylan offering me everything.

What woman doesn’t want to live a lavish life of luxury?

I was a young woman struggling to get through university with hardly any money in my name. I had dreams, but they all went out the window as soon as I met Dylan Stark. My dreams had now changed, and I was living a life I never imagined. I could live it with a man I loved. A man I could raise a family with and a business that would eventually pass down to our children.

But not if Daxon Stark had anything to say about it.

Ever since he found out about our blossoming relationship, he had been a thorn in my side. A constant reminder lurking in the shadows and watching my every move with distrust. He tried to sabotage every little thing I did, but kept it hidden from his son.

I’d never forget dear daddy’s stern warning after we announced our engagement. The way I withered under his powerful stare and pondered his distaste for me, wishing it could be different. We were going to be family, and all he wanted to do was hate me.

A cell phone rang, and it had been Dylan’s. He was a gentleman and excused himself from the table to address a business matter. His father had given us lovely congratulations, but it had all been fake. His eyes followed his son as he left the room and we were all alone.

But then his deep brown haze glared my way.

His distrustful daggers pierced into me as he rose from his seat and the chair squeaked on the floor. My eyes landed on the business suit jacket as it hung from his chair where he discarded it, but landed on his white dress shirt. He left it unbuttoned at the top as he moved towards me and my mouth went dry. His dominance loomed over me as he pulled at his blue tie and it hung loosely from his neck. Veins ran down it as his pulse throbbed in his throat and the madness was all directed at me.

He leaned in with a hand on the table beside me and a day’s worth of stubble stared back at me. The mix of salt and pepper within it. I licked my lips and my insides quivered. His other hand gripped the back of my chair, but he startled me when he shook my seat. His wicked grin grew within my eye shot and his shirt dipped low enough for me to get a good view of his chest hair. My mouth was no longer dry and watered at the sight. But my irritation grew with his never-ending rudeness.

He let in a deep breath as he sniffed my black locks and let out a low groan. “Oh, princess...”
