“You can have my room if you’d prefer? It’s a king-sized bed.” Daxon offered as he pointed towards a bedroom and looked at me. “The other one is a queen, but I’m sure you’d want something far more luxurious.”

His deep brown eyes burned into me. They traveled down my body and made me quiver. I felt naked underneath his stare, whether or not he intended to.

“I’m sure it will do for the night.” I managed to speak and held my composure.

But his eyes did something to my insides.

“Very well then.” Daxon said matter-of-factly and looked away from me. “The bathroom is adjoined and you might want to knock before entering. We wouldn’t want another situation where you see me naked again, now would we, princess?”

Immediately, my cheeks burned bright pink, and my embarrassment rose. Daxon’s magnificent ass came to mind, and I felt the temperature rise. The incident was between us, but I knew he wouldn’t let it go that easily.

I clapped my hands together at the awkwardness I felt. “On that note, I should head to bed. I’ve got to sober up and all.”

Daxon grinned as I walked past him, and he enjoyed my embarrassment. He thrived off of it and the little games he loved to play with me. I could get through this. I just had to spend one night in his suite and I’d sneak out first thing in the morning.

I got to the bedroom door and went to close it, but he stopped me. “Oh, one last thing... Don’t forget to dream about me, princess.”

I glared at him, and he let go of the door. I slapped it shut with a frustrated huff and his sarcastic laugh followed. The back of my head fell against the door and I cursed him to hell and back.

Damn you, Daxon Stark!

He frustrated me to no end with his whirlwind behavior. He was hot and cold. Good and evil. He was everything I shouldn’t be attracted to, but couldn’t help myself.

“Damn him...” I muttered to myself as I flung the covers back with frustration and buried myself in the sheets.

I covered my head and wanted to scream, but a smell overtook all of me. The smell of his cologne. It was the smell of Daxon.

“Oh, goddamnit...” I sighed as I took it in and he surrounded me.

I was in the bed he had already slept in.

Why didn’t I think of this?

I was stuck here in Daxon’s bed with the smell of him everywhere. The mix of his cologne and his fresh masculine scent. There was no mistaking it now that I had been so close to him. Too close.

Time passed as I laid there in my future father-in-law’s bed and my eyes grew heavy. His scent wrapped around me like a warm blanket and relaxed me when I knew it shouldn’t. His smell made me at home, but slumber took over and I drifted to sleep.

MY HANDS REACHED OUT, but always came up empty. I ran as fast as my leg would go to reach him and he kept moving further away. I didn’t give up as my arms stretched out and wanted to grab him, but never let go.

He kept stalking away with his back turned to me and his dark figure moved with ease. Bright colored balloons came into view with a birthday cake and lots of candles, but he never stopped. My mom went to hand me a present with a pretty red bow and all I wanted was him.

He kept moving with me in tow as a school classroom sprung to life and the teacher at the front of the classroom said. “All right class, let’s make a special gift for dad.”

But he never stopped.

He walked on into Christmas and a beautifully lit tree with presents underneath. Big bows on every single one and silent night played in the background. But he still wouldn’t stop.

He kept going and flew into a dark street. Decorations were the only source of light for witches, ghosts, and ghouls. Orange pumpkins laid on doorsteps as people handed out candy to children dressed up for the special night of Halloween. But I reached for him and he vanished.

“Daddy!” I cried out and thrashed my arms about. “No, don’t leave me! You can’t go!”

Hot, wet tears fell down my cheeks as I grabbed for him, but nothing was there. I didn’t want him to go. I just wanted him to love me.

My cries went unheard until I heard my name. “Celeste? Celeste, wake up!”

My hands were no longer empty, and I felt something touch my cheek. “Princess, please wake up. You’re safe, you’re here with me.”
