THIRTEEN

Trapped Together

Everything went byin a blur. I didn’t even remember seeing the Brava family after everything that happened. Dylan showed concern for my well-being, but didn’t question how I fell into the water anymore. Paisley was in shock, but Nicholas helped calm her back to reality and I knew she would stay the night. It didn’t bother me because all I could think about was Daxon.

He was my hero when I never thought he would be.

Danger happened in the blink of an eye and he wasted no time diving into the water to save me. The water swallowed me whole, and he brought me back to life. He pulled me into the safety of his capable arms and shielded me from disaster.

I could still feel his thumb tremble with worry against my cheek. I could still see the look of fear in his deep brown eyes. The fear that he almost lost me. But I couldn’t explain any of it because it was gone as quickly as it came.

Once the nightmare was over, he went back to his usual self. Dylan took over and his father had gone back to the distant look in his eyes. He avoided eye contact with me, and it stung. I shouldn’t let him affect me this way. It was wrong to want more from him and I couldn’t help myself.

The world he had let me into for those brief moments in time were the scariest of my life, but I had never felt so alive. He let me in, saved me, and showed me his true self. Unlike this closed off man who couldn’t stand the sight of me.

Dylan immediately ordered a boat for us to go back to the resort with no further talk of business. I was pleased to get off the yacht and put all this misery behind me. Between Mr. Brava’s gross advances and my near-death experience, I had enough excitement for the day.

The boat ride back was a quick one and thank God for that. Daxon kept his distance all the way back to the resort. The awkwardness on the boat was enough to drive me mad. I’d take Daxon’s annoyance with me over this dead silence. At least he acknowledged my existence. He wouldn’t do anything except look at his phone and text an odd message. It was like nothing had happened and it was all just a bad dream.

But one I couldn’t ever forget.

“I’m just thankful you are okay, darling.” Dylan said as he swiped his keycard to enter our hotel room and his lips brushed my forehead. “The situation shocked Mr. Brava, and he apologized for the inconvenience.”

The inconvenience was his disgusting behavior on his yacht. I never would’ve been in danger if it wasn’t for his unpleasant conduct. I almost drowned thanks to that awful man and the circumstances that led up to it. The way he viewed a woman was inexcusable. A piece of prized fine meat that he just had all over his expensive yacht.

“Oh, I’m sure he was...” I muttered under my breath and bit my tongue.

“You should get changed out of those wet clothes.” Dylan explained as he pointed towards the dresser and looked down at his phone. “I just have an important call to make.”

I simply nodded my head and opened the drawer. It squeaked a welcome, and I pulled out a tight black dress, but a black lace caught my eye. It was the only piece of lingerie I bought for a special occasion. But after Daxon ruined my last surprise for Dylan, I was reluctant to wear it, but now I couldn’t give a shit. I almost died, and it opened my eyes. Life was too short not to live it. I was getting laid tonight and I could use the company.

I smirked to myself at the little surprise I slipped on underneath my black dress and did up the zipper at the back. The oversized mirror at the dresser showed my hair was a mess, and I grabbed my brush to tame it. I ran the bristles through my wavy locks and it bounced to perfection. My hands teased it and I touched up my makeup in the spots that the water had ruined.

I could hear Dylan’s voice and knew he still was on the phone, but I shouted I’d be back soon. I needed to get out of here and get some fresh air. The hotel room wouldn’t help calm my thoughts. I knew business calls took long amounts of time and I just would not sit around waiting for it to end. So, I grabbed some cash along with the keycard and stuffed it in my lingerie breast cup.

My black high heels tapped along the hallway floor after our hotel door clicked shut behind me. The elevator came into view and I pressed the button. My eyes landed on a couple just down the hallway as he kissed her neck and she fumbled with the keycard to open the door. She let out a flirty giggle as he licked up her neck and the door opened. They tumbled inside and the door slammed shut behind them. I grinned at the thought of their wickedness and the lingerie under my dress.

I was getting lucky tonight.

The elevator dinged, it was here, and the doors opened. I stepped inside, but my grin disappeared when only one pair of brown eyes gazed back at me. They looked at me with surprise, but soon turned into that familiar wicked annoyance. It should be my fiancé’s face looking back at me, but instead, it was his father.
