The problem wasn’t only that they were in love. They were a couple. Just the two of them.

Nikolett was a territory admiral of the Masters’ Admiralty. She believed in the power of the trinity marriage and had once even looked forward to being placed in a trinity.

But now…

Even if she had been able to convince Eric to at least try to find a way for them to be together, when she pictured it, all she saw was Eric and herself. No third. She didn’t want to share him with anyone. She wanted Eric to be hers, and hers alone, the same way she wanted to belong to him without a third there.

These feelings were a complete betrayal of a foundational tenet of the Masters’ Admiralty.

Nikolett took an unsteady breath, her chest hiccupping with a sob. She was about to get married, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to touch her new spouses.

The idea of being intimate with anyone but Eric made her sick. No matter how angry or heartbroken she was by what he’d done, she longed for him. Moments like right now, when she felt alone and vulnerable, she comforted herself by imagining he was here. That he’d hold her and tell her she was safe.

But that was pure fiction.

The man she loved was forcing her to marry someone else.

What the hell was she going to do?

ChapterThirteen

Montana blinked a few times as he opened his eyes, his brain taking a few extra seconds to remember where he was. And who he was with.

Then he smiled.

Vadisk lay on his back on the other side of the bed, Dahlia sleeping between them, her arm curled around Vadisk’s bare chest, one leg tossed over their husband’s muscular thigh. They’d kicked the sheet off completely so that Montana, whose arm was draped around Dahlia’s midsection, had a perfect view of their bodies.

Their naked bodies.

After their conversation with Vadisk’s admiral, they’d returned to the large bed and, one by one, they’d drifted off to sleep in the wee hours of night.

He picked his phone up off the nightstand, his eyes widening when he realized it was nearly ten a.m. He’d been sleeping like shit ever since arriving in Crimea. Hell, he hadn’t slept well prior to the trip. He’d been anxious about meeting his spouses and worried as fuck about their mission, so it felt like he had spent the last few days running on fumes.

None of that grogginess was present now. In truth, he felt like a new man, ready to take on the world.

While Montana had been all in on the plan to engage in some threesome fun by the pool, certain it was their best way of rooting out the blackmailer, he hadn’t been able to completely shut out the realization there was a good chance someone was watching and filming them.

Despite that small niggling thought, it had been an incredible experience, one he hoped to repeat about a million more times. Montana had been relieved—and thrilled—that physically, they were completely compatible.

There was no denying they were still trying to pick their way through the emotional aspects of this new relationship, but that was always going to take longer.

Now, however, since they’d gotten to know each other better, and he’d confessed the truth about his time with the Navy, he felt like this marriage was finally on the right foot. Since that revelation, Vadisk had started to turn to him for ideas on their next steps, questioning him about his specific skills. It had been Vadisk who’d asked about his ability to mirror Sinaver’s phone, thrilled when Montana told him he could do it.

Regardless of how amazing their interlude was last night—and it was really fucking amazing—Montana couldn’t help but hate that the first time they’d engaged in a physical relationship, it had been about putting on a show.

Looking at them now, he realized he couldn’t leave it like that, couldn’t allow the memory of what was essentially their honeymoon to be tainted.

It was time to expand on what they’d started last night, and this time, it was going to be just for them.

Slowly rising from the bed, he peered out the large windows and quietly made sure the curtains were tightly closed, shutting them away from whatever prying eyes might be hiding in the trees behind their villa.

When he turned back to the bed, he grinned when he realized Vadisk was awake, their gazes connecting.

“Everything okay?” he murmured quietly.

Montana nodded. “Better than okay.”

“I slept like a rock,” Vadisk admitted. Unlike Montana, he didn’t sound pleased by that. No doubt the security officer was worried about letting his guard down that much.
