“I know,” I whispered, giving her my truth. “The best of my life.”

Huge emerald eyes blinked and her mouth fell into a perfect o shape. “Really,” she finally said.

“Really.” My throat bobbed as I swallowed back the emotion being with her made me feel.

Pride. Joy. Hope.

Maybe even love. If not now then soon, that much I knew.

“You are incredible, Maya.”

She reached up and cupped my face, rubbing her thumb backwards and forwards across my stubbled cheek.

“I think you might have broken my vagina, though.”

I burst out laughing. “I have?”

“Hmm, definitely.” She stretched again, with a yawn. “In the best way, though. How is that awesome cock of yours?”

I lifted the duvet and looked down. “Hard. Still awesome.”

Maya gasped and looked under the cover. “Looks okay to me, although,” she said reappearing, “I can’t believe it’s hard again.”

“Not sure it’s been anything but all night.”

Her soft giggle made said dick twitch, but seeing as I’d broken her vagina, I kissed her forehead instead.

“I think we’ve missed breakfast,” I said, resting my head back against the pillow.

“Why, what time is it?” She reached for her phone and looking at the screen groaned. “Christ, I’ve got seven missed calls from my mum, three from Jack and two from my niece Daisy.” She peered at the screen again. “Even Charlie has sent me a message.”

I chuckled. “What does is say?”

“He’s a dickhead.” She sighed. “’Hope your fanny doesn’t catch fire. See you at breakfast.’ Yeah, well, he’s got that wrong.” Throwing her phone back on the bedside table, she snuggled back down against my chest. “I suppose we should get up. I think we have to check out by eleven.”

“We could and then I could take you out for breakfast. I checked the area out, and there’s a farm shop about a mile away with a really good café, apparently.”

Maya rubbed her stomach. “Ooh, I could eat a full English. With a nice mug of tea.”

“That’s what we’ll do then.” I pulled her closer and whispered my fingertips up and down her arm. “I need to call Maddy first, though.”

“What did she do last night? Did you let her stay on her own?”

My stomach did a little jump, and suddenly I was desperate to call my daughter. “Yeah, yeah I did, although, I think her friend Emma was going to stay with her.”

Maya frowned at me. “You know, if you’re worried about her, we can skip breakfast.”

“I’m not worried about her. She’d have called me if she needed me. I gave her the warning, no boys, but I’ll bet that bloody boyfriend of hers has been round.”

“He wouldn’t have stayed the night, though, would he?” She didn’t sound any more convinced than I felt.

I scrubbed a hand down my face. “I don’t know. Maybe. He better have bloody not, but who knows.”

Maya brushed the hair from my face and placed a soft kiss on my chest. “You have to trust her, Will. And if he did stay, at least you know she’ll have been safe—not scared or worried about being on her own.”

I knew she was right, but it didn’t make it any easier to swallow. “I know that at some point she’s going to have sex and I’m pretty sure it’ll be with Zak, but…”

“But you’re just not ready for her to become a woman.”
