CHAPTER 37

JOEY

Iflicked through my phone looking at all the list of calls that I’d made to Destiny’s phone. There were thirty-seven, including the six that I’d made since sitting in my seat. Each one had gone unanswered. They hadn’t even gone to voicemail because she didn’t have one, no matter how many times I’d told her that she should for work. I’d even sent her fifteen text messages. One more wouldn’t hurt.

Joey

Daisy, I don’t know where you are or why you’re not answering your phone. If you’ve already left for the tour please call me when you can. If you’re avoiding me then please don’t. I’m taking off soon so if you leave me a message I’ll get back to you when I land. All I want to tell you is I love you. I should have said it before the other night. I should have told you every day since the first time I realised it. I should have shown you how much you can trust me and that I will never, ever intentionally hurt you. Take care, Joseppi xx

“We’ll be taking off in ten minutes, Mr Farrow.”

I looked up to see Marco smiling at me and my mind wandered back to when Daisy had travelled with me.

“No problem, Marco. And sorry that you got called in on such short notice. I missed the commercial flight I was booked on.”

He shrugged and grinned. “I had nothing planned for the next couple of days and the money is always useful.”

“I don’t feel so bad then.” I shifted in my seat, getting comfy ready for take-off. “So, what’s for dinner then?” I asked.

“It’s salmon, broccoli, and new potatoes followed by chocolate brownie and ice cream.”

“Christ, that sounds fucking awful.”

My heart practically jumped out of my chest as I turned to the voice.

“Daisy,” I said with a gasp. “What are you doing here?”

She crossed her arms and cocked her hip. “Well, you were the one who wanted to talk to me.” She looked at her phone. “Thirty-six times.”

“Thirty-seven,” I corrected her.

“Shit, I missed one. That must have been when that security guy was feeling me up again. Dirty bastard.”

I couldn’t help smiling because next to her was a suitcase. Not just a cabin bag but a huge bloody thing.

“Going somewhere?” I asked, my hands shaking as I waited for her reply.

She narrowed her eyes on me and then turned to Marco. “You better stow that in the hold. And don’t worry, there’s no dildo in that one.”

Marco reached for her case. “I’ll do that now. We’ll be leaving in fifteen minutes, Miss Cooper.”

“Righto, Marco.” She flopped down into the seat opposite me. “After take-off, a couple of virgin Pina Colada would be good.”

“No problem.”

Once he’d gone, she turned her full attention to me.

“I got your last text by the way.”

“Christ, that security guard must be shit at his job if you had time to read a text while he was searching you.”

“I told him it was urgent, some fucking soppy dick declaring his love to me.”

I leaned forward. “And how do you feel about it?”

“Does my rather big suitcase not tell you?” She rolled her eyes. “You’re a bit dumb at times, Joseppi.”

I grinned, for once not at all feeling pissed off about her calling me Joseppi. “What about your tour? You’re supposed to be going to Japan.”
