“You’re here. You’re safe,” he says. I nod as the tears fall, and Cash pulls me into his chest while I cry.

“He’s done it again, and all she did was help us.” This is all my fault, so I cry harder.

Chapter thirty-three

James

Isitinmycar watching the local news on my phone. A small smile creeps up on my face when Casey’s face appears on the screen.

“I hope you have seen this Rylee.” It was bad enough that I didn’t see Rylee for five whole days when she decided to go on that holiday, but to then learn that Cash was there with her for some of those days, sent anger through me like nothing before. I had a feeling something was going on with Rylee and Cash. I knew she had stayed with Cash for a few days, but that was after the cunt had found her with me, so I put it down to protection. After the ball, I followed Cash’s Uber back to Rylee’s and I watched Cash walk into her apartment that night and not leave until the following day. What sick cunt goes after his dead son’s girlfriend? The more and more I thought about them, the more I couldn’t handle it. I smashed up everything I own which caused me a small inconvenience. I thought of all the ways I could make Cash disappear. I could then make Rylee realize she is mine, but Cash made me take drastic actions before when he was around her too much and I wasn’t thinking straight. I can’t afford to mess this up again. I have been planning for months how I’m going to do this, and I just need a bit longer and then Rylee can finally see I am all she needs.

She will realize how much you love her.

I stopped drinking alcohol a while ago, it doesn’t do me any good, but when I learnt that new bit of information, I lost it and once again I found myself outside Casey’s. This time she was home. I let myself in and found her in the kitchen. I only asked her if we could talk, but she instantly began to wave a knife at me, screaming all sorts. She didn’t make it easy for me. I look down at the bandage on my arm, the wound is still healing from where she tried to stab me. Sick bitch. I just wanted to talk, but by the sounds of her screaming and crying, she clearly wasn’t in the talking mood. I tried to hold her down to calm her, but hearing her scream that Rylee will never be mine and that Cash will always protect her, didn’t calm me at all. It made me worse. The images of feeling Casey’s body convulse under me and watching the light die out in her eyes while my hands were wrapped around her throat did fill me with some sadness, her eyes were so similar to Rylee’s. I quickly drove back to Rylee’s house and anxiously waited to see her. When I did, I felt lighter again. She was alive and well and that’s all that mattered.

I smile to myself as my eyes leave the screen, but the smile drops quickly as they land on Cash’s house. Of course she is there, but this time next year, she will happily be with me.

Rylee

December

“Haveyoueverbeento Whitefish?” Cash asks as we take our seat on the plane.

I was confused when I realized he wasn’t driving toward the city airport, and when I questioned him, he smirked and said wait and see. We arrived at a place I hadn’t heard of before, but when I saw the air strip and realized it was a private airport, my jaw hit the floor. I can’t imagine how much this must have cost, and I already know how much he paid for the cabin, but him shedding thousands on a plane ride made me kind of uncomfortable. I don’t want Cash thinking he has to do things like this, I’ve never been a materialistic girl. He grabbed my hand and said, “Relax, I got a good deal from a client. It’s their plane.” That eased my anxiety some.

“I’ve heard it’s stunning this time of year, though.”

“Cold.” He laughs. “Real fucking cold. Did you bring coats and sweaters.”

“Of course. After you told me how cold it gets and after I went online and looked it up, I packed the thickest sweaters and coats I have. Hence the track pants.” I glance down at my thick black pants. “Of course you would pick the coldest month to go.” I roll my eyes with a smirk. I searched it, and it does look amazing in the winter. I prepared for snow, but we are only here for three days. Cash was given a week in the auction, but he had to split it, as he’s busy at work. I told him we could just wait until he wasn’t, but he wanted to come in December.

“You will see why tonight.” He smirks before looking out the window. The stewardess comes out and tells us we are getting ready to take off, so we need to get our seat belts on. Cash and I smile and nod before clicking ourselves in.

I’ve never been on a private jet before, and honestly, I could get used to it. The seats are big and extra comfy with cup holders. There are two fridges stacked with drinks and food. I turn my head, glancing behind me, and there is a tiny sofa and two doors. I frown while turning back. Why are there two doors? Cash is staring at me like he knows what I’m about to ask.

“Two doors?” I question.

“Bedroom,” he states, staring at me. His eyes say a thousand words. I don’t know why I get so giddy around him, I’m a grown fucking woman, but in his presence, my stomach swarms with butterflies and a hot flush takes over my body.

“Oh, ye-yes of course. Makes sense, some people get tired on long flights.” I nod while looking away.

“Real sleepy,” Cash says in a sarcastic tone. I stay looking out the window. My cheeks feel like they’re on fire. I can’t keep going this red around him like I’m some inexperienced little girl.

“How long is the flight?” The plane moves down the runway.

“Around four hours, I think.”

“Why, are you thinking of a nap?” Cash asks with a straight face.

“Uh, no. I’m okay?” He nods, like he doesn’t know why I’m acting funny. I mean, why would he, he’s a grown fucking man and I’m the one acting like a child. Cash leans forward, opening the fridge and pulling out a bottle of my favorite wine.

“You’re really pulling out all the stops today.” I smile at him.

He pours us both a glass of wine and passes one to me.

“Thank you for coming on this weekend away with me.”
