“See you during the week.”

Diane leaves us and Beth and I look at each other. Beth places her hands on my shoulders and offers me an encouraging smile.

“I know you have a million things on your mind and Asher is just one of them. But please think of the money.”

“Believe me, I am.”

“Those banker parties are where the money is at. Who knows, you could have the money for the loan arrears tonight.”

“That would be nice.”

“It would. When I worked here one guy paid me ten grand a night just to listen to him read the songs he wrote.”

I smirk. “Really?”

“Yes. Of course, I’m forbidden to tell you who he is but let’s just say he’s super famous.” Her eyes light up.

“Oh my gosh, you have to tell me. Now I’m definitely going to want to know who he is.”

“No. There are some secrets you keep in your heart forever. And now you know you can trust me.”

“I guess you’re right. How come he wanted you to listen to his songs?”

“He was going solo from his band and didn’t trust the people around him, so he came here for three nights and paid me handsomely.”

“That is insane. Wow. And all you had to do was listen to him?”

She nods and smiles widely. “That was all I had to do even though he was gorgeous. I hope you find someone like that. A decent guy who just needs a listening ear.”

“I hope so, too.”

“And don’t worry about Asher. I guess… some things are just not meant to be. He’s one of them.”

Nothing feels truer than that right now. For the last few days I kept imagining him and his nameless fiancée.

All sorts of questions drifted through my mind, fromwhat does she look liketo how did he propose to her.

I’m sure she’s prettier than me and if I know Asher he would have gotten down on one knee.

He's an alpha through and through but he also has those masculine qualities that women love. They’re not for me. They’re for her now. Whoever she is.

I guess I’ll meet her soon.

“You’re right. It wasn’t meant to be.” I can’t help the sadness in my tone any more than what I feel in my heart.

“Get ready. Call me later when it’s over. Or if you need to just talk on your break.”

“I will.”

“Cool. Remember, think of the money.”

I dip my head and she leaves.

I turn back to look at the outfit I’m supposed to wear tonight and take it off the hanger.

“Well, at least I start out wearing clothes.” I study the beautiful sequins on the bra and thong as they sparkle against the light.

Pulling in a deep breath, I set it down, take my clothes off and put on the bra and thong.
