“Say it again.”

“No.”

She yanks my shirt up, exposing my chest.

“If you think this is torture, think aga— OW!”

Her fingers pinch each of my nipples and then she twists!

“Say. It. Again.”

“Your biscuits are sexy.”

She twists harder. “Say it.”

“Okay! I love you.”

I’m breathing hard by now, partly because of the nipple pain, partly because she just takes my breath away.

She lets go, even though her body still pins me down. And I say it again, this time in a soft, reverent whisper. “I love you.”

The most radiant smile breaks across her features as she looks down at me. Her golden hair dangling, framing her face like a curtain.

“You are the most infuriating human being on the planet, you know that? You’re over-confident, opinionated, hot-headed, overprotective…”

“Well, you, lady, are impulsive, brassy, unpredictable… and the most maddeningly stubborn woman I've ever known." I stroke my thumb over her cheek. “You’re also strong and smart. And I love you.”

It’s as simple as that. I don't know how to say it more plainly.

She tosses her head back and laughs. "Why? Why do you do that?”

“Do what?” I trace my fingers in circles over her knees. “Love you?”

“Make me fall deeply in love with you.”

Something like a supernova explodes in my chest. It’s wild and crazy and achingly beautiful. Just like Emily. Unexpected, surprising, astonishingly wonderful. More than I ever hoped for but just what I needed. And I will spend the rest of my life striving to deserve her. But that doesn’t mean I’ll let her win every time.

I drag the palms of my hands along her waist, grab hold, and flip her onto her back, pinning her to the floor.

“Because, Kitten,” I growl. “Like attracts like. Love attracts love. And however much it feels like a blindside hit, we were always meant to collide. You are the other half of me.”

Her eyes grow soft and she smiles up at me tenderly. It’s such a beautiful sight; the rise and fall of her chest, her arms bent over her head, her hair spread out on the floor. I lean down and kiss her and she breathes in, then out, full and sated.

“So… pairs?” she hums.

“Yes,” I repeat, kissing her once more. “Pairs.”

EPILOGUE

EMILY

“Alright, ladies! Who's ready to get splatted?” Maggie shouts, pumping her paintball gun into the air.

That crazy nut has really gone all out for my bachelorette party.
