His energy, which had eased considerably after two orgasms, flooded the room. The hairs on the nape of her neck rose.

“Not yet, but I’ll get him, Lyla.”

“He’s playing us.” Cold fury poured through her. She couldn’t stop it. She dug her nails into his chest and felt his muscles flex in response. “I want his head, Gavin. Whatever it takes, you do it.”

He kissed her hard and deep and then drew away with his chest heaving.

“You were made for me,” he murmured. “Do you still hate me?”

She thumped him on the shoulder and slid off him. Her legs weren’t quite steady when they hit the floor. “I’ll think about it.”

She swiped up her jeans and was thankful for the connecting bathroom so she could wash up. She looked thoroughly fucked. Her cheeks were flushed, hair a tangled mess, lips swollen, and eyes glazed with satisfaction. Damn Gavin.

He came into the bathroom, looking disgustingly slick. His suit was a bit rumpled, but he appeared just as composed as he had when he brought her in here.

“I’m leaving Blade, Angel, and eight guards,” Gavin said, running a hand through his hair. “I have two men watching Carmen’s mother just in case.”

She nodded and turned to face him. “Angel tells me he’s going to take your place. He’s… interesting.”

“You’ll get used to him.”

“Can he do it?” she asked, thinking of Vinny.

“He’s from New York.”

“Meaning?”

“Meaning he won’t let anyone fuck with him.” He caged her against the sink. “You okay?”

She nodded.

He cupped her face. “I’m sorry.”

She blinked back tears. “It’s done. Go get him.”

He kissed her and then led her out of the hospital room. Blade and Angel were talking in the hallway. They turned when the door opened.

“Did you kiss and make up?” Angel asked with a lascivious grin.

“You’re annoying,” she snapped.

“Lyla!”

She looked down the corridor and saw Marcus rushing toward her. When he reached for her, Angel blocked his way.

“Who are you?” he asked aggressively.

Marcus looked Angel up and down before he asked, “Who are you?”

“Angel Roman.”

Marcus glanced at Gavin before he held out a hand. “Marcus. We’ve never met. I usually deal with Raul.”

“Raul’s the businessman,” Angel acknowledged and shook his hand.

Marcus walked around him and engulfed her in a hug. “How are you, honey?”

“You let him touch your wife?” Angel demanded of Gavin.
