“I guess it is. I hadn’t actually seen that when I was making it, but you are my blossom. Except I’m pretty sure you’ve bloomed.”

I didn’t do romance. I didn’t do sweet, but I wanted her, and I would do anything it took to keep her.

As she reached out to trace the sculpture, I reached in my pocket, and as she turned around, I pulled her into me.

“Rylee? I’ve watched you for years, wishing I could have you. I fucked up, a lot. And somehow, you're here.”

I lifted the ring between us. A ring with a rose-gold flower and a diamond because she deserved it all.

“What is that?”

I swallowed suddenly, less sure about myself for the first time ever.

“A ring. It’s a ring, Rylee. Marry me?”

“You don’t have to marry me to keep me, Caspian.”

Fuck. Had I misread what she would want?

“Oh, stop it. If you mean it and really want to marry me, then heck yes. I will marry you.”

I reached for her hand and slid on the ring.

“Rylee, I’ve never wanted anything more than you. You’re my forever.”

“Hey there. It’s Calliope, right?”

She eyed me over a body, his heart laid out on a tray.

“Yeah, well. Call me Cali. What can I do for you?”

I smiled. She didn’t even question me being in the morgue.

“I have a favor to ask.”

She stopped pulling out whatever organ was lower in the chest cavity. Lung? I didn’t exactly pay attention to anatomy unless it was something to do with a female or would kill someone fast.

“Sure? Most of my visitors aren’t as lively as you so I can’t say anyone’s asked me that.”

I smiled but stopped as the smell really hit me.

“Oh, yeah. Here.”

She handed me a small jar.

“Just put some under your nose. Really helps.”

I did, and then I met her eyes as we both looked up as she took the jar back. Her soul screamed crazy. It was clear as day in those beautiful green eyes with bursts of gold.

I cleared my throat and looked away.

“Yeah, sorry. Anyway. Favor. What is it worth to you to let me hang out while you look at the mayor’s body?”

Her eyes narrowed and I put my hands up.

“Dude. I didn’t kill him, swear. I’d just really like to know what did.”
