Parks stood next to me at the altar, and he laughed.

“It feels like tradition, I guess. Didn’t you hear about my wedding to a certain heiress?”

Right. That made headlines. The news had said someone had walked into the wedding before Parks had even shown up. The jilted heiress hadn’t been seen since, but rumors said she was off gallivanting Europe after being stood up and having someone targeting her.

But still, that was only one fucking wedding.

“Right. I forgot about that. Thanks for bringing me to the truth about my sweet little butterfly’s first taste of vengeance.”

It felt like a lifetime ago that I’d brought her home from that fucking mountain town. The house burned down and oddly, no bodies were found. The local paper said it was arson from the local teens. In truth, it had been all a week.

Emilee had an agenda, and I was just here to fund it. Fucking hell, I’d been so relieved when the doctor confirmed that, in fact, Emilee had been telling the truth, that she hadn’t been raped and everything was superficial, I’d have given her an entire country if that’s what she wanted.

What had she wanted? A wedding. Full of our enemies. It hadn’t taken much for her to take over the chaos that was the Lords when Vinny disappeared. He’d apparently laid a lot of groundwork that she was going to be his wife and that all her products were his.

What we’d discovered? Well, the pews of the church were full. That meant there were a lot of Lords members. A lot more than she’d realized.

“I’ll be right back,” said Parks. Gage was my best man, but Parks fit right in. It was hard not to grow close to someone you blew up a house with and later tried to take vengeance on an entire gang with.

“You think he came up here just to make sure you didn’t run? He was supposed to walk Emilee down the aisle.”

Fuck. Walk her down the aisle. I breathed in a long breath and counted to five before letting it out. It didn’t matter how many times she came down the aisle, it still felt like it was the first time I’d seen her.

“If anything, he was probably trying to get a break from those two crazy-ass women. Now we just have to find you someone.”

I heard Gage snort, but my eyes turned to the aisle again. Halle was already halfway down.

All the rogue thoughts vanished. There was my beautiful bride. My bride. My butterfly.

I didn’t think I’d ever seen her smile so wide. Her eyes were bright and clear, and she met my gaze.

I had no idea that a crazy little girl who’d just been drugged could have brought me this far. She got down to the altar and reached for my hands. It was then I noticed she held a bouquet that she handed to Halle.

“We are gathered here today to witness the joining of these two souls.”

Emilee looked at the pastor and smiled that sugary sweet innocent look.

“Pastor, cut to the chase. I have a really big surprise planned.”

She winked, and he seemed to think he knew what it was. Maybe he thought it was the wedding night, but really it was going to cost a lot more than just a wedding.

“Ah yes. Two people so much in love. Do you, Emilee Rossi, take this man to love and—”

“I do.” She cut him off and smiled, all the while not looking away from me.

“Uh, okay. Do you, Roman Demarco, take this woman to—”

“I do.”

“Well, then, by the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

This part I wanted. Halle was taking pictures and then I heard her heels click-clack away. Parks was following behind as I lifted my eyes away from my wife’s. Gage tapped me on the shoulder, and Emilee looked at the pastor.

“Pastor? Would you mind stepping over here? We’d love to have one picture of everyone so we can forever remember this day.”

I gave her my phone, and we moved up the altar, around a newly donated baptismal bath that happened to be bulletproof and had enough space for several adults. Emilee held up the phone and Gage and I climbed down inside the still empty space. The anonymous donor requested it not be filled up until the day after today, conveniently.

“Everyone say cheese.”
