“Fuck you, Roman. You stood by and let me be humiliated. Now it’s my turn to humiliate Emilee Rossi and the entire fucking family. You might just be a casualty, but that’s your fucking choice.”

I released him and held my temper. The fucking anger swirled inside me like a damn storm, ready to overtake everything around it.

“You will not touch her. I will handle whatever needs to be handled.”

He nearly spit at me as he bit out the next statement.

“I don’t think you know what any of that means. You’ve become far too cozy, and I want fucking revenge.”

“We need to leave,”Roman said in my ear.

Parks looked over my shoulder and without hesitation was already moving off the bar stool that we’d been stuck sitting on. So much for crashing their little meeting. It had felt like every eye in the place was on me. Talk about uncomfortable.

Roman’s hand wrapped in mine, and he pulled me away from the bar.

“But I was just starting to like it here.”

I didn’t mean it. The second we walked in, Parks talked to some big guy who’d approached us and then promptly we were seated by the bar. I tried to get a better seat, but no one was listening. The guy hadn’t even been deterred when I’d threatened to kick him. Parks wasn’t cracking a smile. No one was having a conversation with me. Not even Parks would tell me anything.

“What happened? Why wasn’t Parks invited?”

If he wasn’t invited, I could sort of be okay with also not being invited. My uncle still had my hackles up. I didn’t even know I had hackles, but as of right now? I could feel every damn hair on my neck stand at just the idea of him thinking he could threaten me. How much was I willing to take over and live through? My father’s reign of terror had erupted apparently, and I was catching the river downhill.

“I have an office in back. Come with me.”

Roman pulled harder, and I went, but it felt like I molded to his side with how hard he pulled me to him.

“What is going on?”

Parks was close enough. I worried he and Roman were sharing a single brain. The second we got into an office we closed the door though there was none of the familiar greetings we had in the past. I looked around the place. It was empty save for a desk. It was simple, sleek, and very much Roman.

“This is your club too?”

He didn’t answer as he moved toward a window that I hadn’t noticed. A two way mirror similar to that of the one at Seven. That was the one club I knew well and associated with some amazing personal growth.

“We have a lot of problems.”

Parks stepped over to me, and I stepped away. The betrayal was pretty obvious. While I was confused and out of the loop, Parks seemed to be waiting for directions. Roman turned back toward us.

“My brother is associated with the Lords. I’m certain now.”

Nothing would surprise me.I was really starting to not like said brother.

“Aw, tiny hands probably feels all big and bad, doesn’t he?”

No one was cracking a smile, but Roman did come back over to me and pulled me into a hug. It was weird because hugging was one thing. Him not trying to get a feel? What had this world come to?

“We hug now?”

I looked up into his far too serious face.

“Butterfly, we’ve done so many, many things that I think hugging is acceptable at this point.”

Taking a deep breath, I filled my lungs with his scent and let myself relax into him. I could do this.I could be normal.
