“You’re not,” Leo assured me.

I sniffed softly. “Promise?”

“I promise,” Leo whispered. “But I need you to promise me something in return.”

I immediately tensed up. I knew exactly what he was going to say. “Do I have to?”

“No, you don’t, but I think it’s important.”

“Fine.”

Leo chuckled softly. “I didn’t even tell you what it is yet. You could have just promised to marry the monster king or be turned into a vampire.”

“Are you readingTwilightagain? Please, Dad is still obsessed with that book.” I groaned, then burst out laughing when Leo dug his fingers into my side. “I know what you’re going to say.”

He tilted his head. “You’re a mind reader now?”

“You’re going to tell me to talk to my dads. And I will, I just...I’d rather you were with me to give me the emotional support that I need.” I chewed on my lip, and Leo gently pulled it out from between my teeth.

He smiled. “If that’s what you need, then we can do it when I get back.”

“Thank you.” I tried to swallow around the lump in my throat, anxiety and fear crawling into my head again. “I’m scared.”

Leo brushed his lips over mine. “Scared of what, hon?”

“Nothing. Everything. Fuck, I’m such an idiot.” I dropped onto my back, and Leo let out a squeal as he landed on me.

He twisted out of my grip and onto the bed mattress. “You’re not an idiot. Don’t say things like that about yourself. You’re hurting.” He dragged his thumb over my bottom lip. “If things get to be too much, you can call me. Unless I’m in the car, I’ll answer. It doesn’t matter where or what I’m doing. I love you, and I’m here for you.”

“Thanks, Ricky.” I leaned forward to capture his full lips.

I got lost in the moment of kissing Leo. The soft little sounds he made, the sweet taste of his mouth. Before either of us realized it, I had him on his back, trapping him against the mattress.

Leo gave me a smile, his blue eyes twinkling. “I have to go, or I’m going to be late. Watts gets snippy if anyone is late.”

“Tell him you were busy with me.” I bit the skin of his neck and sucked hard, leaving him a goodbye present for everyone to see.

Leo squirmed beneath me. “Andy!” I let him up and watched as he rushed to the bathroom. “That’s a hickey!” he exclaimed. “I’m too old for hickeys.”

“Something to show the world you’re officially taken. That you’re mine.” I smirked when he stalked back into the room.

Leo put his hands on his hips. “You know what?” he asked and then flung himself at me, and I felt the press of his mouth against my neck. The suction of his lips and the prick of his teeth.

“Mark me, baby. Claim what’s yours, because I want everyone to know that I belong to you,” I spurred him on.

Leo huffed. “I’m going to be so late now.” He kissed me again, like he didn’t have anywhere to be. “I love you,” he whispered.

“And I love you, too.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

Leo

I hadn’t been late to the shop. In fact, I got there with five minutes to spare. And luck must have been on my side because Noel either didn’t notice the hickey on my neck or chose to ignore it. I figured it was the latter since I knew my brother.

As I made my way to my RV, my stomach was clenched and in knots. Leaving Andy felt like all those times before when he would go on the road and I would stay home. Or when I would go to a race, and he’d have a show he had to go to. It hurt. I’d be a liar if I wasn’t scared that I wouldn’t hear from him again. Or that Andy would be gone when I got back to North Carolina. I wondered how long that would last, the hurt and the pain that he had caused. I knew he was trying, but it didn’t fix the things he had done.

I unpacked my belongings just as someone knocked on the door. I figured that it was most likely Ezra. I didn’t want to deal with him right now as much as I loved him, but I was pleasantly surprised to find RJ standing outside. He grinned at me as I let him inside and casually sat down on the sofa. He stretched out his long legs and grinned.
