“You still have my address or do I need to send it to you via text?” Kelly asks.

“I have it. See you in a few hours, Kelly.”

“See you then, Berlynn. I’m looking forward to meeting Berkley.”

“I’ll remember you said that,” I giggle, disconnecting the call and start walking through this maze of a house.

By the time I locate Aris and Berkley, my feet are sore and I’m wishing I had time to soak them. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I have a blister forming on my big toe. For an athlete, that says a lot about how much of an enormity this place is. The loud bass of the surround system was my first clue as to where I could find my escape artist brother and the cohort in his crime.

I laugh underneath my breath when I see the two of them on the floor stretching. What’s funny about it is that their legs are spread out in a V and they’re pulling and pushing, stretching out their hamstrings. I’ve seen girls do this, but never grown assed men. It’s comical to say the least.

“Hey!” I shout over the rock ‘n roll beat.

“Hit the red button on the wall to your left, Berlynn!” Aris shouts. Looking over my shoulder, I see the button he mentioned and hit it, silencing the racket they call music.

“I have a surprise for you, Berk. But we have to leave in the next hour or so to get there in time. Are you up for a road trip?” I giddily ask.

“A road trip sounds like fun,” Aris answers for Berk. “Let me make sure Kayson has a crew that can follow us before we make any definitive plans. Berk, head on up and shower, and use the elevator.” He gives Berk a shrewd look and a pointed finger before turning his attention back on me. “I’ll meet y’all in the foyer in an hour.”

“Sounds good. Come on, Berk. Let’s go get cleaned up so you can get your surprise,” I imply as I reach my arm out with my elbow crooked. Aris helps him stand upright and assist him over to me. Berk hooks his elbow with mine, it’s a way to help him without it feeling like I am.

“What’d you get me, sis?” Berk asks once the elevator doors close and I hit the button to the second floor.

“You’ll see,” I tease him.

“Man. You’re such a killjoy, Berlynn,” he chides.

“No. I just want to see the shock on your face. It’s good, Berk. Just be patient.”

“I’ll try,” he grumbles beneath his breath.

“Aww. Don’t be like that, brother. I’ve worked hard on getting this for you. Don’t take that away from me now by pouting.”

“Fine,” he says, shaking his head. “But if I don’t like it, I’ll make your life miserable.”

“No doubts.” I snicker. “But you’re going to love it,” I promise him.

“If you say so. I don’t like surprises,” he argues.

“Liar! You love getting gifts,” I quarrel. “Suck it up, buttercup, because I’m not telling you anything until you see it for yourself.”

“Brat,” he calls me as we step out of the contraption and head toward his room.

“Punk,” I counter his attack, ruffling his hair as I lead him to his chair. He has a waterproof one in his bathroom, courtesy of Aris, that he can switch into once he’s ready for his shower. “See you soon, Berk. I’ll come grab you once I’m ready.”

“You unpacked my things? Thank you, sis. You know how much I hate that.” He leans forward and wraps his arms around my waist. “You’re the best sister a man could hope for.”

“Love you, Berk,” I tell him as my eyes begin to mist.

“Love you to infinity, Berlynn.”

With a quick nod of my head, I leave him to get ready. I hope Aris doesn’t lose his ever-loving mind once he realizes what Berk’s present is. If he does, oh well, he asked for this.
