“Blair,” I groan, resting my forehead on hers. “You need to leave.”

“Why? Did I do something wrong?”

“No, Babe,” my voice is raspy. I’m losing control and I won’t be able to keep her at arm’s length for much longer. “But if you don’t leave, I can’t be held responsible for my actions.”

I pull back from her.

Blair tilts her head back and stares up at me with her beautiful blue eyes. She doesn’t know what effect she has on me, Dax, or Holden, which only makes her even more potent. How can someone so beautiful not see the effect she has on the opposite sex, the way everyone stares when she walks into a room?

“What actions?” Her voice is husky and I pray I’m not reading the situation wrong.

My left hand grabs her hip as I tangle my right in her hair and slam my lips down on hers. The taste of vanilla lip gloss explodes across my taste buds along with the wine cooler she must have been drinking. For a moment she doesn’t move, and I want to kick my own ass for getting this all wrong. This is why I stayed inside the house instead of acting like I knew how to socialize. I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay away from her. The past seven years have been bad enough.

But then something amazing happens and she kisses meback. Her lips and tongue dance with mine as she wraps her arms around my neck.

“Fuck,” I groan when I break the kiss.

Looking down at her I can see her arousal clearly. Her blue eyes are dark and stormy, her breathing erratic, her breasts heaving against the confines of her pink top.

“This is why I’ve always stayed away from you,” I murmur.

“What do you mean?” There is pain in her eyes as she softly asks the question.

“I knew if I ever got the chance to touch you, kiss you, I wouldn’t be able to let go,” I reply before kissing her softly. “But we can’t do it this way. We need to talk first. Wait here, I’ll be back.”

Chapter Five

Blair

I lie down in the center of Ford’s bed as I wait for him to come back to his room. My legs feel like jelly, and I know I wouldn’t be able to stand for long. My fingers keep drifting to my lips. I can’t believe I kissed Ford Hardy. It may not have been my first kiss, but it has wiped all other kisses from my memory. His taste and smell are already imprinted on my senses. His words, dear God, knowing he wasn’t ignoring me all those years but trying to keep his distance.

Swoon.

I’m lying on my back touching my lips—again—and replaying our kiss when the door opens. Ford stares at me as I prop myself up on my elbows. His gaze travels from my face, down my body to my toes, and back up again, leaving a wake of goose bumps. His gaze is almost like a physical touch.

I watch his Adam’s apple bounce as he swallows before speaking. “Let’s talk in the living room. I can’t have you in here right now.”

I can’t hide my smile as he waits for me in the doorway before grabbing my hand and leading me back to the front of the house. It’s surreal to know that I have this effect on him. Ford takes a seat in a brown wingback chair before pulling me down onto his lap. Both Dax and Holden frown at us from where they are seated.

I can feel Ford’s erection against my bottom and wiggle to get comfortable. His arm bands around my middle before he growls in my ear. “Sit still, Babe. We need to talk.”

I freeze and look at Holden and then Dax. Why would they be part of this conversation? “What’s going on?” I feel apprehension skitter across my skin.

“Everyone has gone home,” Holden says. “So we can havetime and privacy to talk.”

But Dax isn’t listening. His gaze is locked on Ford’s arm around my middle.

“Ford,” Dax growls.

“Nope,” he says as his arm around my middle tightens. “I’ve been patient. I’ve played by your rules for years. I’m not letting her go again.”

“What—”I try again, but Holden interrupts me.

“This isn’t what we discussed,” he says. “We said we were going to take it slow.” His frown deepens and I can’t remember a time I’ve ever seen Holden really frown.

Dax opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off with my hand in the air. “Stop. You need to explain what the heck is going on. Or I am leaving.” They are giving me whiplash and I hate that they’re discussing me like I’m not even in the room.

I hear and feel Ford’s sharp inhalation of breath at my words as his arm tightens around me. All of them remain silent which only serves to make me mad. Pulling Ford’s arm away, I struggle to stand from his lap before turning to make my way to the backyard. My purse and keys are on the table and I need them to leave. But I don’t make it far before Dax lifts me into the air.
