Glancing away, I focused on the fact he was my kidnapper, and that helped to clear my thoughts.

“Sloane, this is my sister, Fallon,” Grayson said.

Blinking from my thoughts, I remembered to smile at the other woman and offered her my hand. Instead of taking it, she drew me into a brief, friendly hug.

“It’s so nice to meet you. Grayson’s never introduced me to any of his girlfriends before.”

“She’s not my girlfriend,” he said at the same time I replied, “I’m his captive.”

“Oh.” Eyes the same color as her brother’s darted between us. “It sounds like there’s a lot to unpack there…”

Fallon barely batted an eyelash at my comment, which led me to think that she was well aware of who her brother worked for and what kinds of things they did.

“She’s Finnan’s fiancé,” Grayson said. “I have to watch her.”

“He has to make sure I don’t escape,” I added.

“Oh,” Fallon repeated, then flashed me a brilliant smile before saying to Grayson, “Well, I’m just glad you could come out tonight, brother mine.”

“It’s been a while,” Grayson agreed.

She turned and motioned two other women forward. “These are my friends, Molly and Sadie. Girls, this is my brother, Grayson, and Sloane.”

Grayson said a gruff hello to the two other women who were staring at him like they’d just won the lottery. I peered up at the man and saw what they saw. Grayson was tall, built, and fucking gorgeous. The way he reacted to them was interesting though. Instead of lapping up the attention, he’d done exactly what a sigma personality would do. He withdrew and slid into that elusive mode they were well-known for. I wonder if he knew that his actions would only make the girls work harder for his attention.

“Where’s Alana?” he asked his sister.

“She wasn’t feeling well and bailed.”

Grayson grunted and took a seat. Fallon took the spot next to me. Grayson was next to her until Molly squeezed in beside him and Fallon, while Sadie took the other side. With a smirk, I glanced over the top of Fallon’s head to see Grayson staring down at the other two women with a look of thinly-disguised disdain on his face.

Turning my attention back to Fallon, I thought I’d get to know a little bit more about her, and by extension, Grayson.

“Can I get you a drink, Fallon?” I offered, leaning forward and grabbing the empty champagne flute.

She held up her hand like she was fending someone off. “Thank you, but no,” she replied.

The waitress appeared with twelve bottles of water and placed them on the table. Grayson reached into his pocket and pulled out some cash and gave it to her. With a bob of her head, she left us to it.

Fallon leaned forward and took a bottle, and cracked the lid. Swallowing back half of the contents, she screwed the lid back on and looked around.

“Do you like to dance, Sloane?”

I did like to dance, but the words Grayson had said to me before rang in my head. He was probably right—men would be all over me if I went down there. Even as we’d walked through the main part of the club, there had been more than one roving hand. But this was too good of an escape opportunity to miss. With the crowds and the dim lighting, I would be able to slip away unnoticed, then get to a phone to call… not my father, but maybe I could reach my mother somehow.

Either way, I had to try.

“I probably shouldn’t,” I replied, gesturing to Grayson with my chin.

Fallon looked over at her brother. When she faced me again, she was grinning. “Gray is too distracted by my friends right now.”

I peered over her shoulder to see him speaking to one of the women, his mouth close to her ear. Jealousy flared, stabbing me like a red-hot poker in the gut.Why in the hell was I getting upset about this?

“Come on.” Fallon stood and held out her hand to me.

Another glance over at Grayson, and I saw my opportunity. Molly was all over him, practically climbing into his lap and trying to kiss him. I followed Fallon down to the dancefloor, checking out the possible escape routes on the way. There was a long hall with restrooms on the opposite side of the club. On the other side, behind the DJ, was a fire escape. The only other accessible way in and out was the front entrance.

I simply had to bide my time, despite the fleeting thought that Grayson would probably have stationed men all over this club keeping an eye on me. I wouldn’t be able to get two feet before I was dragged back, but I had to try.
