“She was, although her taste in music was appalling.”

“What kind of music did she listen to?”

“She loved Elvis. She listened to his songs over and over again.”

“Are you saying Elvis is appalling?”

“It is when you’re fifteen and your mom is singing the wrong lyrics offkey.”

I smile. “I bet she knew all the lyrics. I bet she sang the wrong ones to drive you crazy.”

He chuckles. “Yeah, she probably knew the lyrics toStranger in my Own Hometownweren’t ‘I came home from detention, about five or six years ago’.”

I giggle. “She was definitely teasing you.”

“She did enjoy teasing me.”

“Oh yeah? How?”

“When I was little and didn’t want to take a bath, she’d tell me my toes would fall off if I didn’t bathe. And then she’d sneak into my bedroom after I fell asleep and pull on them.”

I grin. “Your mom sounds awesome.”

“She was the best. But your mom is awesome, too.”

“It’s not a contest.” I squeeze his hand. “Thank you for sharing your memories of your mother with me.”

He palms my neck before leaning close and melding his lips to mine. I sigh when his musky flavor hits me. His wood chips and teak oil smell surrounds me and I want to drown in it. I want to drown in him.

The door slams open and Flynn jumps away as Weston marches inside.

“This isn’t what it looks like,” Flynn says and I frown. He’s still denying our relationship? Even after tonight?

Weston raises his eyebrows. “It isn’t? You didn’t get arrested with my little sister tonight?”

I glance back and forth between my brother and the man I love. Weston’s nostrils are flaring and a muscle in Flynn’s jaw is ticking. Shit. I want Flynn to tell Weston we’re involved but I don’t want them to come to blows.

“It was my fault. If Rogue hadn’t become attached to me, he wouldn’t have been jealous when I was talking to Sammy.”

My brother pulls his gaze away from Flynn. “What did you say?”

“You heard me.”

“I’m waiting for the punchline.”

“Punchline?”

“What you said made no sense whatsoever.”

“It’s not Flynn’s fault we got arrested.”

“Flynn should have known better.”

“This is not the Wild West where women couldn’t defend themselves. This is not Flynn’s fault,” I insist.

“Flynn’s standing right here and I’m taking full responsibility.”

“Hey, Weston.” Lucas knocks on the open door before walking inside. “Shall I release your sister?”
