Page 6 of Before It Was Love

“Our husbands yelled at us for following you around.”

I shake my head. “How do your husbands put up with you?”

Lana winks. “Trust me. I’m worth it.”

“Me too.” Jennifer nods. “I watched this YouTube video on how to please a man with my mouth. It was very informative. I never realized how sensitive—”

I hold up my hand to stop her. I don’t need lessons on how to give a blow job. I already know exactly what I enjoy and how I enjoy it.

A vision of a woman with long, blonde curly hair pops into my mind. I would love to fist those curls while she’s on her knees in front of me. My cock twitches.

I clear my throat before I end up getting hard in front of the mayor and her entourage. I’d never hear the end of it if that happened.

“If this is about some bet…”

I swear the women in the mayor’s office spend more time betting than working. Add in the amount of gossip they share and I’d be surprised if they get any work done at all.

“Not some bet,” Lana insists.

“Thebet,” Jennifer adds.

“Which you are now going to lose,” Lana says to Jennifer.

Another woman raises her hand. “I’m not losing. I’m winning.”

Lana rolls her eyes. “Prudish Melanie wins again.”

“It’s not prudish to believe men should remain properly dressed while working on a job,” Melanie insists.

“Easy for her to say. Her husband doesn’t care if she follows you around like a puppy dog,” Jennifer mutters.

“Because my husband reaps the benefits once I’ve caught sight of Flynn without his shirt on.”

I remove my gloves and attach them to my utility belt. I need to get back to the job site if there’s no work to be done here.

“I’ll stop by maintenance and ask them to mop up the water on my way out of the building.”

Lana nods. “Thanks for your prompt service.”

“Pull anymore stunts and my service won’t be prompt any longer.”

“You have a contract with the city.”

“Good thing there’s nothing about response times in the contract.” I wink as I pass her. She opens her mouth to protest but my phone rings before she can speak. “Gotta answer this.”

“What’s up?” I ask Gary. He’s my foreman at the job site.

“The manager of your apartment building phoned. A tenant is complaining about the water in her apartment.”

I frown. “Why doesn’t he handle it himself?”

“He claims there’s nothing wrong. The water should be fine.”

I grunt. I guess I won’t be making it to the job site anytime soon after all.

“You want me to handle it, boss?” Gary asks.

“Nah. I can swing by the building on my way to the site.”
