“Damn straight I am.” I kissed her quick and bit her a little harder. “I love you, Betty. That means something.”

“It means everything,” she whispered against my mouth as another tear slid down her cheek.

Then I swept my mouth against hers again before she pushed back suddenly. “Peter’s going to kill us.”

“Yeah.” I laughed. “But I don’t care.”

“Curtain call!” hissed Brittany from the wings of the balcony. “Hurry!” She was waving us to get off the damn stage.

I set Betty down but grabbed her hand and didn’t let go. We ran, practically flying all the way down the stairs, Betty’s laughter following me. The elation was indescribable.

All I knew was that I couldn’t control myself as we ran out to thunderous applause and a standing ovation and took our bow. I picked her up, my arms bracketing her thighs as I spun her around and let her slide down, kissing her as she came. More whistles and cheers erupted from the crowd.

Cupping her sweet face, I pressed my forehead to hers. “You love me.”

“Very much.” She smiled, gripping my wrists. “Sorry it took me so long.”

“Better late than never, Ms. Mouton.” I trailed my thumb down her cheek. “Does this mean you finally forgive me about the glitter booby bomb?”

She laughed. “Yes. As long as you forgive me.”

“Absolutely.” I leaned forward close to her ear, “Now I’m ready for make-up sex.”

“Come on, break it up, lovebirds,” said Frank, still wearing his fedora in full Velasco character. “One more bow.”

We clasped hands with the rest of the cast, looking out at the audience. Betty’s Mom and sister Emma were clapping and yelling. Her friend Lily from school stood next to Finn, smiling and applauding as well. Peter and Trish were standing in the aisle, shaking their heads but smiling. I even saw Hale and his buddy Reed from the construction company bracketing their mouths with their hands and hollering up at the stage.

“Get a room!” yelled Hale, winking at me.

Holding Meredith’s hand on my left and Betty’s on my right, we took our final bow, ending the best show of my life. The show that brought Betty into it who became the best part of my world.

Epilogue

Four months later…

~BENNETT~

“There’sa goat wandering around on your porch,” my dad told Betty as she set another platter of hors d’oeuvres on the table, his expression a mixture of confusion and disgust. He turned to me, “Does she own a goat?”

“No, that’s just Gilbert,” I told him. “It’s her neighbor’s goat that gets out a lot.”

“No one feed him,” warned Betty with wide eyes. “Rich food makes him sick.”

“Great wine,” said Frank, balancing a plate of cheese, crackers, dip, and finger sandwiches.

“Thank you.” I’d insisted on providing the food and alcohol for Betty’s housewarming party.

Like Betty said, what was the point in owning a bougie grocery store without using the perks?

It seemed her housewarming party had turned into a little reunion with our cast from the show as well. Meredith and her husband stepped up next to us.

“Your house is so lovely, Betty,” she said.

“Thank you. Glad y’all could come.”

“Say, are you doingSound of Music?” asked Frank around a bite of sandwich. “Auditions are next weekend.”

“No. I’m going to sit this one out. Take a little time off from BPAL.”
