She straightened her panties then fussed with her skirt till it was back in place.

I watched the whole time with a raging hard on pressing against my pants and briefs. The jacket covered it, so I just made sure it was pulled closed and buttoned.

"You got a little lipstick right there."

She scowled and wiped her lips with her fingers. She poked some loose hairs back into her updo and took a deep breath. "I need to use the restroom."

I'd been dying to make her this flustered, so I took a second to laugh and enjoy the moment. She scowled at me with a cute, impatient frown.

"Okay. Let's go find one."

I took her hand and guided her out of the room. She was trying to act casual, but she couldn't hide the guilty flush on her cheeks. Being a terrible liar was funny, but I didn't want it to get us killed.

The first door we checked was another empty room, but this one had weird historical magic items displayed in glass cases around the floor.

We found a bathroom, but it was surrounded by mirrors with several mirrored walls inside. I checked it as quickly as I could but the mirrors were sketchy as hell. "Bathroom isn't secure."

"I really need to go."

"Make it quick."

I took a position at the entrance and left her to it.

The large din of a crowd on the other side of the wall caught my attention.

Wren seemed fine in the bathroom, so I took a few steps over to a door that was situated oddly in the middle of the wall.

The sounds inside could've easily been the society members doing their deals. Curiosity got the best of me, so I opened it slowly.

Men in tuxedos milled about, circling women wearing slinky clothes, unkempt hair, garish makeup. I knew that look. They were sex workers but also looked barely legal. Some of them clearly prepubescent. I didn't see Kenny in there but recognized the men from the party.

I snapped a quick photo and closed the door to return to the bathroom.

There was no noise coming from inside. "Wren?"

Eerie silence. Shit.

Her bag was lying on the floor. The stall empty. Fuck.

"Wren!"

I blindly pounded on the mirrored walls. How did she get out of here without being seen? Did she go up?

I ran out and left the building via the closest exit. We were on ground level, and there were two stories above the bathroom. No stairs. I climbed the trellis to the second floor balcony. Wren burst out of a side door and started running away.

"Wren!"

She stopped and turned toward me. She ran with her arms out and I caught her. She whimpered and struggled for breath. "Hurry." I dropped her over the edge of the balcony, and she held onto the trellis like a monkey.

"Oh my God."

"I got you."

I swung around behind her and helped her down. We hit the ground and looked up to find Tommy at the second level aiming a pistol at us.

This was why I needed a weapon. Perfect opportunity to kill the fucker. We had no choice but to take off running down the side of the mansion. Luckily, he didn't fire or chase us.

We made it to Vander's waiting vehicle, both of us breathing hard.
