“You too, Shawn.” He nodded to the valet as he unbuttoned his jacket. He slid it off and hung it up on the hook in the back area of the car. He slid in and shut the door, sealing them off from the world. His eyes met Avarie’s, and his cock grew thick with need.
He would need relief soon.
He bit back a growl at her sexy grin, pulled away from the curb, and drove toward the garage’s exit. Everything about Avarie was intriguing. “I read you liked fast cars,” she said, staring off at the scenery as it flew past.
“You read up on me?” He glanced over at her, guiding the car out of the garage. The traffic was light for a Friday. He knew the perfect restaurant to take her to that would be intimate and where they could enjoy great food and each other.
“Well, I needed to know who I would be working with,” she scoffed, turning toward him. “Are you trying to tell me that you didn’t read up on me?”
“Guilty.” He barked a laugh. His eyes were focused on the street, but he could feel hers on him. It was something about her that made him feel young again. There was a spark between them that they shouldn’t ignore. She’d impressed him in the boardroom, the way she’d come in and controlled the meeting. She could hang with the best of shrewd business men. She’d literally had everyone eating out of her hand when the meeting had adjourned.
But since it was just the two of them alone, he was seeing a different side of her.
A shyness had come over her.
Avarie was a woman who knew when she should be in control and when she should give over that control.
That excited him.
He wanted to be the man she’d trust to give her immense pleasure and treat her as a woman should be treated.
“So wait a minute. You’re trying to tell me that your company has retained a new attorney to oversee your legal division and you didn’t do any research at all?” Her voice ended on a squeak.
“Fin said he personally picked his replacement, and that’s all that mattered. Your father is a good man. I’ve known him pretty much my whole life. If you are good enough for Fin, then you are good enough for King Steele,” he said. He slowed the car and took a left turn. They would be at their destination in just a few minutes. “I read your CV in the meeting, and it was quite impressive.”
“I hope you don’t do most of your business off the recommendation of someone else.” She chuckled.
He turned his gaze to her and found her staring off out the passenger window.
“Of course not. But when I do see something that I want, I go after it.” He turned his attention back to the road.
He wanted Avarie Ingram.
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
“I tend to say what I think and I hope that you don’t mind if I be blunt,” she blurted out.
He sensed her shift in her seat to face him.
“Please, go ahead,” he replied with a nod. If she was anything like her father, she would never bite her tongue. She’d be forthcoming with any, and everything, which was what he would need from his staff attorney.
“Some of the comments you make have me thinking that you want something else to come out of this dinner, and I don’t think it has anything to do with us working together. What are you hoping for, Mr. King?”
“Shane.”
“What?”
He glanced over at her and found her head canted, staring at him.
“My name is Shane. You can use it.” The restaurant came into view, and he slowed the car, guiding it into the valet line. “Mr. King, we can save for later.” A wide grin spread across his face as their eyes met.
“See, that’s what I’m talking about, Shane,” she declared. Sassiness radiated from her green eyes. “I need to know. What are you expecting from me?”
He reached for her hand and brought it to his lips, laying a small kiss to her soft brown skin.
“I want to enjoy a nice dinner with a beautiful, intelligent woman, and then later, hopefully I’ll be able to savor what is between the thighs of said beautiful woman.”
