Ethan and I looked at the short, dark-haired woman with milky skin standing before us.

“Dr. Daniels, what are the odds of seeing you here?” she gleamed.

Ethan stood, embracing her. “Good to see you, Nurse Olander.” He stepped back.

“Sorry to interrupt your dinner. I wanted to stop and say hi.” She smiled at me.

“Nurse Olander, I’d like to introduce you to Malaysia…”

I stretched my hand out toward her. “…Ethan’s friend.”

She shook my hand. “Good to meet you. I thought you were a little more than friends.” She chuckled.

Ethan’s eyes seemed to burn a hole through me.

The nurse peered at Ethan. “I was wondering if you and I could grab a bite to eat sometime?”

He smiled then laughed uncomfortably. He placed his hand on her arm. “We can discuss a possible date tomorrow at work.”

She smiled bright. “Great!”

She glanced at me. “Nice to meet you, Malaya.”

I wasn’t going to bother correcting her. “Nice…”

“Her name is Malaysia,” Ethan stated.

The nurse’s eyebrows rose and fell. “Enjoy your dinner Malaysia.”

“You too.” I smiled.

He sat, immediately bringing the glass of wine to his lips.

“Someone has a crush.” I smirked.

Ethan’s eyes burned with fury. “Why did you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Tell her you were my friend?”

“Well, Ethan we are.”

His eyes darkened. “Are we just friends?”

“I don’t understand.” I leaned in closer.

“Ethan, we agreed to occasional hook-ups.”

“You don’t have feelings for me?”

An uncomfortable silence lingered over our table.

“Ethan, you nor I have time for anything more.”

“Knowing I don’t have time, you sat back and smirked, watching as I figured out a way to let the woman down nicely.”

I folded my arms across my chest with one perfect eyebrow arched over my dark, oval eye. “But you didn’t let her down. You told her you both would discuss the matter tomorrow.”
