He scans the area then squeezes my shoulders. “One sec.” He hurries over near the bar where he finds a pile of towels. Lifting one to his face, he sniffs it—my guess is to see if it’s clean or not. Satisfied, he rushes back to my side, wrapping the towel around my tiny frame.

“Thanks,” I say through a tremor from the breeze hitting my damp clothing.

“We’re good?” he asks after tucking the corner of it into place.

I nod.

“Great, let’s get you out of here.” He takes my hand and leads me swiftly back to his cabin.

For the last several hours, we spent our time in and out of sleep and on top of each other. If it were up to me, we’d spend the rest of the day right here. There is a thing called room service. But it’s our last full day on this excursion, and Jackson wanted to join his friends for a late lunch. Apparently, during one of my short naps, he received a call on the room phone about the meet-up and volunteered both of our presences. I wanted to protest, but my stomach demands otherwise.

To help things move quicker, I was able to convince Jackson to let me go just long enough to wash my deliciously battered body. Have it his way, and I’d bath at his place and probably wear last night’s ensemble. But he agreed to meet me at the café.

When I arrive, he’s standing under a table tent, mingling with his friends. Touching his shoulder, I alert him of my arrival. He smiles, tucks me under his arm, and plants a kiss to the corner of my lips.

“Hey.” He beams.

“Hey,” I say, kissing him back. “What’s going on, everyone?” I wave to Braden, Melissa, Adam, and a few others.

“What’s up?” they say in unison, except for Melissa, who stands to hug me.

“Are you hungry?” Jackson whispers.

“Starved.”

“Okay, come on. I waited for you.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“Nonsense!” He locks his fingers with mine, directing me to the counter to place our order.

After we make our selections and receive our food, Jackson carries both plates over to our friends, while I’m tasked with the heavy-duty stuff—utensils. We take the last two empty chairs at the oversized table and prepare to eat.

“Babe, tell them about the couple from the hot tub,” Melissa says to Braden, and I choke on my chicken salad.

“What couple?” Adam asks.

“Ah, man! Some guy and his girl were getting it on in the Jacuzzi this morning. I went out for a smoke around like five o’clock. I didn’t know they were there until the dude called out for me to leave.”

Laughter erupts, and I try to keep a straight face. Jackson, on the other hand, is eating this all up, laughing and carrying on like they aren’t talking about us.

“No way! For real?” a curly-haired brown beauty adds, one of the women from the other night.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t make this up.”

“Nice!” a couple of the guys call out.

“That is not nice.” She continues. “Why didn’t they just stay in their room?”

“What’s wrong with a little spontaneity?” Jackson asks between chews, and I knee him under the table.

“Nothing, but—”

“Maybe she was just horny and couldn’t wait. Braden did say it was late and no one was around,” Jackson defends.

“Yeah, she was,” Adam coos and fist bumps another guy.

Jackson looks to me, and I try not to return his gaze. This entire conversation is funny to him yet flustering to me. I’m not ashamed for our steamy rendezvous, but I’m not prepared to talk about my sex life with strangers. Eventually, the topic shifts, and I find myself learning a lot more about everyone here. After several hours, we part ways, promising to keep in touch. Our last group dinner happens tonight, and we all need to prepare for it.
