Page 141 of Seductive Temptation

I handed my phone over just as our waitress returned with our drinks. A strawberry lemonade for me and a peach iced tea for Jase.

“There…all done.” He passed the phone back, and two seconds later, his vibrated on the table. Seeing my confusion, he explained, “I texted myself from your phone, so I could lock in your number.”

“Humph,” I remarked. “Presumptuous.”

He laughed.

“Sorry. I just really want to get to know you better. Especially considering…” His words trailed off and he lifted his eyebrows suggestively but I didn’t catch his drift.

“Considering what?”

“Considering what we do at these shoots.”

“That’s just work,” I insisted even as my heartbeat sped up.

“Some of it is,” Jase conceded. “But the rest of it…you can’t deny there’s an attraction here.”

I hadn’t been expecting this kind of honesty from someone who could seem so shy sometimes. Still, I couldn’t admit that he was right.

“Well, you’re an attractive guy,” I pointed out as if he didn’t look in the mirror every day.

He shot me a look.

“What?”

“Oh, come on! Admit it, Kelendria. You’re attracted to me just like I’m attracted to you.” My stomach clenched when he called me by my full name. It sounded so exotic in that smooth, deep voice of his.

I saw determination shining in his eyes. He was set on getting me to admit it.

Two servers bustled up to the table. They sat our food down and promptly rushed off again.

“Oh, good. I’m so hungry,” I muttered, snatching up my fork.

As I closed my eyes and bent my head to say my grace, I could feel Jase staring at me, still waiting for his answer. But he wouldn’t get one.

The first bite of chicken salad tasted like steak and potatoes after not eating all day. I shoved a few French fries in my mouth, glancing up when a snicker filled the air. I made a show of rolling my eyes. After that, we ate in silence. Jase wolfed down his larger-than-life burger and I inhaled my chicken salad.

When the check came, we reached for it at the same time.

“I got it,” I said, even though I wasn’t entirely sure I had enough money in my account to cover the bill and fill up my tank before hitting the road.

Jase gave me a look that said “yeah right,” before accepting the check from our waitress.

“At least let me leave the tip,” I insisted.

He shook his head as he threw down some bills.

“Already taken care of. Are you ready?”

Jilted by his abrupt change in direction, I nodded.

Outside, the night sky was even darker now. All the shops and bars and restaurants had their lights on, illuminating the entire block. We lingered in front of the restaurant, just off to the side so we wouldn’t block the entrance.

“You were right, the food was very good.”

“It was,” Jase agreed.

“We should have had dessert.”
