GG glanced at the watch on her wrist and I took the chance to check her out. She was short, like really short, but her big, fun personality made up for it. Her black hair was long, hanging all the way down to her waist, and was parted straight down the middle with loose curls in it. She was dressed in yoga pants and a matching jacket with comfy-looking sneakers.

“You’re right, Leonard. You guys have to get started and I have to go take my boys to their soccer game. Have fun!” With that, she breezed around the small living room, collecting her purse and sunglasses before leaving.

More introductions were made, and when it was all said and done, I met Leonard Scofield, a veteran photographer who was also GG’s uncle-in-law and Lani Mai, a gorgeous Vietnamese makeup artist/hair stylist.

Then, it was time to start getting ready.

Jase didn’t have much to do to be camera ready—how lucky—so he stayed in the living room, lounging on a couch and focusing rather intently on his phone. I wondered if he was texting a girl. That day at the café he’d said he was single, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t somebody’s fuck buddy. A pang of jealousy spiked through me as Lani started working her magic on my face. I could use one of those buddies myself.

It took an hour for hair and makeup doneand to get changed into the neon orange bikini, my outfit of the day. Lani helped me put on a Terry cloth robe, then grabbed her travel-size makeup bag before we made our way out to the living room. Jase and Leonard were already standing by the door, waiting for us.

“Let’s get to it,” Leonard said, clapping his hands together. I smirked to myself. The older man kind of reminded me of Stan Lee, Marvel’s favorite cameo guy.

We walked down the sandy hill that the cottage sat on, to the actual beach. The view from here was even more breathtaking. The big, blue sky seemed to go on and on and on, melding at last into the cerulean ocean water. The sand was clean and warm and the slight breeze blowing about was perfect, not too hot and not too cold.

While Leonard set up his equipment, I slipped out of the robe and handed it to Lani.

“I’m all set. Let’s get this shoot started,” Leonard said, voice full of excitement.

It was show time.
