He cupped my chin in his hand and lifted my eyes to his. They were soft and gentle, and blue. I couldn’t help but be reminded of those fiery orbs from last night. “That is certainly a lesson that is up to you to learn, but I have faith that you will learn it. Now then-” He squeezed my hand and a sigh escaped him, “-I suppose we should get up and see to those fliers.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-SEVEN

We metthe impatient Aria in the foyer of the house with Peter and Serena close at hand. The chink of glasses from the dining room and the din of laughter told me where Sofia had gone.

Aria stood before a small table with a thick stack of fliers about printer paper size. She set her hand on the top and met our eyes. “Your money got you a cool thousand fliers. I couldn’t make any more because I ran out of ink.”

“And time,” Serena spoke up before she stifled a yawn.

Aria nodded. “And time. I know how many people attend these things, so you’ll have to be careful about handing them out.”

Ben strolled over to the stack and took up the top paper. The bold words at the top read ‘Encyclopedia of Crashing Thunders.’ Smaller letters mentioned Peter’s name along with the publication date. “With five of us handing these out, we should cover much of the crowd.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “Five?”

“You and I, and Chase and Grant can do their part while they help us look for the doctor,” Ben told me.

“We’ll do our part,” Peter spoke up as he stepped up to his fiance’s side and wrapped his arm around her waist. “I’m allowed pretty much anywhere, so I’ll take Aria and Serena along with me into the official spaces to see if we can’t find Dr. Myer.”

Ben smiled. “Then with eight of us against the good doctor, we should have little trouble finding him.”

“Nine,” a voice spoke up, and Sofia appeared in the doorway of the dining room. She clasped her hands in front of her and her eyes twinkled. “I will be going, as well.”

Ben lifted an eyebrow. “Are you sure?”

“I want to avoid anyone else getting hurt,” she told him before she turned to the trio. “Will you be taking breakfast with us?”

Peter shook his head. “I’m expected at the tract soon, so we’ll get some food at the arena. But thank you for the offer.”

The pair left the house, but Serena paused in front of me and grasped my hands in hers. There was a bright smile on her face and her eyes glistened. “Thank you.”

I started back and blinked at her. “For what?”

“For giving me a purpose,” she explained as she looked at where Aria had gone. “Helping Miss Aria last night was the most fulfilling task I have ever done. I. . .I think if she will have me, I would like to go into business as her apprentice.”

I grinned and gave her hands a squeeze. “You did a great job on the fliers, so don’t be afraid to ask her.”

She nodded. “After this day, I will. And thank you again.” And with that, she hurried to catch up to the other two.

There was a warm glow on my cheeks as I turned to Sofia and Ben. They had big smiles on their faces. I wiped mine off and frowned at them. “What?”

Ben offered me his arm. “You truly have a way with you.”

I snorted and accepted his arm. “I’d rather have a way with a stack of pancakes right now.”

We consumed the delicious meal provided by Hannah and David and were nearly through with the food when I heard the front door open. Lambert’s voice echoed over the foyer. “I think they’re still having breakfast, doc.”

A chuckle came from his companion, and I recognized the bemused voice of Dr. Amanzi. “If I were married to Hannah, I would never leave the table.”

The good doctor appeared in the doorway with Lambert just behind him. “The doctor’s here for ya, Ben.”

Ben smiled and stood to greet his guest. “As you can see, doctor, there’s little need for your medicine.”

Amanzi tapped on one of the bandages that stuck out from beneath Ben’s shirt. “Then I’ll have to make do with removing the bandages and charge you an exorbitant price for that.”

Ben chuckled. “Then your usual price?”

“Naturally. What is a doctor if not rich off his most troublesome patients.”
