I shut my eyes tight with annoyance.

“It’s the claiming mark that’s blinding you from what’s really going on,” I said. “The alphas kidnapped you, Auntie. You really can’t be serious.”

“But I am serious,” she said passionately. “They really care about me, and we spent a half-day in the best hotel I’ve ever been at.”

“Okay, I don’t need to know the details,” I said. “I just want to make sure you’re not brainwashed.”

“I’m not dear,” she said. “It’s nice not having to worry at my old age and having alphas taking care of me.”

“But they have an omega already. Did you know about that?”

“Yes, they told me what kind of affliction she has,” she said slowly. “They have a heart not to break things up with her, no matter how eccentric she might be. I plan to be her best friend and be there for whatever she needs.”

My aunt got along with anyone, and I started to see howthis might work out for her even though I may disagree with her choice of lifestyle.

But something within me felt broken.

“I’m going to miss living with you in our trailer,” I said, letting out a long sigh and wondering what I was going to do with my life.

“I’ll miss taking care of you as if you were my own. But it’s time for you to be free and live as you want. Either with the humans or here with me.”

Chapter Twenty-Nine

BREANNA

While we ate dinner, I couldn’t help but notice how my aunt was bubbly and happier around her new alphas. They seemed like a cool bunch of alphas, even though they were best friends with Henry and betraying their current omega.

“It's nice meeting you at last,” said Oscar to my aunt, and she shook her head while smiling.

“The alphas who stole Bree’s heart,” she said, and I blushed.

I didn’t want to tell her that I wasn’t on speaking terms with the alphas, even though we talked cordially with each other after Zaff rejected me.

Throughout dinner, Eddie wanted to sit next to me before he would eventually leave with my mom to stay at a relative’s house. Zaff and his pack made sure I was okay and offered me food even though I felt queasy the entire time.

The pain in my abdomen persisted throughout dinner.

After dinner, I was about ready to rush to the bathroom from my stomach pains, but I had to say goodbye to everyoneat the door. I had decided to stay at my aunt’s house for a little while until I figured out what I would do.

“I’ll miss you,” I said at the door, hugging her.

My mother hugged her next.

“Thank you, sister, for taking care of Bree,” she said, teary-eyed.

“No problem,” said Aunt Julie. “I hope you understand why I took her away from Alan.”

“I do, and I think that was the best thing to happen for Bree,” my mom agreed.

“Bye, Auntie,” I said.

“Remember, you’re welcome anytime,” she whispered, kissing my cheek, and I nodded. I watched as she walked away with her new alphas towards their huge SUV, waiting in the driveway.

I hugged Eddie next, who looked saddened by the thought of leaving.

“Take care of yourself, okay?” I said, kissing his face. “I love you.”

His face broke into a smile before he left with my mother, and he would turn several times to wave at me as they disappeared around the sidewalk.
