“Was I supposed to just politely let youkidnapme?”

“Stop using that word.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, do you have a better word to describe what you just did?” I throw my hands up. “Because that’sexactlywhat I’d call this whole experience. Also, why are you refusing to tell me one good reason why?”

With every word, I feel my anger slowly rising to the surface.

And then, I do something stupid.

I give him a hard shove.

To my own surprise, he doesn’t react. Maybe the knowledge that I can’t escape anymore is enough to restrain him.

Or,a tiny little voice whispers in the back of my head. He’s just thinking of new ways to punish you for this.

“Well?” I ask. His silence and inaction make me bolder than I have any right to be. Crossing my arm and jutting out my chin, I stare into his inscrutable eyes. “You got me on your plane. Just what the hell are you going to do to me?”

He continues to stare at me, and I long to know just what kind of twisted thoughts are turning behind his handsome face. A hundred different thoughts race through my mind in a second, each one dirtier than the last.

Which is why his answer is all the more shocking.

Because it’s the last thing I ever expected out of him.

“I’m going to marry you.”

EMILY

“Marryyou?”I work the word around in my mouth. It tastes nice, but the longer I let it linger on my tongue, the dirtier it sounds. “I’m not marrying you.”

“You don’t have any choice.” Konstantin doesn’t look surprised by my reaction. “Not anymore.”

“Like hell I don’t.” The loud roar of the engines warming up makes my ears ache. The plane begins to roll over the tarmac, sending me rocking to one side. I lose my balance. Konstantin catches me, his hands supporting my shoulders.

“Buckle in, Kitty Cat,” he says.

I pull away like he’s burned me. Ignoring his advice, I reach for the cockpit door. “I’m telling the pilot to turn around.”

“Door’s locked,” he says. “Not that it’ll do you any good. He only listens to me.”

“Then tell him to stop!”

Konstantin drops into one of the large, luxurious-looking seats by a window. The light coming through dances over his elegant face. His skin is perfect—except where I cut him.

“Sit. We need to discuss the terms of this marriage.”

“Discuss? There’s nothing to discuss here!” Scowling until my jaw hurts, I test the cockpit door again. It doesn’t budge. “I’m not marrying you!”

“Sit down before you hurt yourself.”

The jet scream grows louder. Gravity shifts, and I feel the cabin shudder as the plane lofts itself into the air. Konstantin gives me a pointed look. I hold my head high to show that my spirit isn’t broken, and that I’m only listening because I don’t want to snap my neck.

Still, I choose to sit as far from him as possible, which is proving very difficult given that there’s only four seats in the entire jet.

“This marriage,” Konstantin starts. “Only has toseemreal.”

My eyes pop wide. The bluntness of his answer hurts me more than I care to admit.
