“The story of Dani's death never made sense. I'm not sure why no one else put the pieces together, and I don't know why the Kingsmen have her, but she's not dead, Dax.”

Venom gasps beside her. “Lex, you're sure?”

“No,” Dax says, turning away. “No, we buried her charred remains.”

“I saw her.”

“You don't know her!” he shouts, whipping around to face her.

She shakes her head. “I'm not the only one. Hannah and Sutton saw her, too. And that's why Kara left. The person I just talked to was Kara. She infiltrated the Kingsmen in order to find Dani. She saw her, too, but by the time she got to that house, they'd moved her. If you don't move soon, they're going to do it again, and who knows how long it’ll take until we find her.Ifwe find her.”

“Kara?” Chance asks with a laugh. “My bitch ex-girlfriend, who's a fucking traitor? You can't believe a word that bitch says.”

“You told her she was crazy, didn't you? When she saw Dani, you told her it was all in her head. That you didn't believe her,” Lex snaps at him. “She did what she thought she had to because the person who should have been there for her turned his back.”

“Dani's fucking dead!”

Pulling up her phone, she selects the picture she took of Dani in the window. “Then who the fuck is this?”

Dax takes the phone from her and gasps. His body shakes, and he whips to look at Chance. “You... you knew she was alive and didn't tell me?”

“Dax, Kara thought-”

“This is my fucking wife!” he shouts and shoves the phone in Chance’s face so quickly it almost hits his nose.

The man's eyes widen, and he shakes his head. “I thought she saw... I didn't think it was real. Dani's dead... We all thought-”

Dax's fist cuts him off as he knocks him to the ground, blood dripping down his chin from a split lip. “You knew my wife was alive over six months ago, and you didn't say anything? Fuck you! Fuck you, Chance!”

Undertaker steps up. “We fucking ride.”

“Kara said there were at least ten men inside when she walked in. Dani's in the basement, shackled with large chains. She couldn't see in the dark that well, but she thinks there are padlocks holding her in place. I don't really understand whythey'd take her, or why they would fake her death, but that doesn't matter. Kill them, and bring her back,” Lex says. “I told Kara to get the hell out of there, but if you don't get your asses moving soon, you're going to lose Dani. Again.”

Chapter Four

Summerville

Dax

Anger flows so harshly through Dax it borders on hatred. Hatred of the Kingsmen. Hatred of the world. Hatred of Chance.

The woman in the picture is nothing short of dirty and sickly, but Dax knows it's Dani. He'd know her anywhere. And he hates that Lex was right. He never believed that bullshit story about Dani was true, but he was told repeatedly he had to get over it in order to move on. He needed to believe it, and one of the people who kept pushing it was Chance. And Dax wasn't the only one he pushed like that.

Dax barely knows how he got to his bike or the address he's already forgotten, but the universe seems to propel him to theright place. He hears the other motorcycles behind him, but he has no idea who followed. It doesn't sound like all of them, but he doesn't turn around to look. It feels like even the simplest deviation from what he's doing will take this small sliver of something he never thought he'd have away. That he'll lose Dani all over again.

Jumping off the bike, he barely gets the kickstand out, and he races up to the house. Heavy footsteps follow him, and there's no plan. There's no talk about what's to happen. He just has to get to Dani. Maybe he should have had a plan.

His shoulder rams into the shitty front door of the white house with the paint peeling, and he's greeted with ten men on the other side jumping up and rushing towards him. It occurs at this moment that there should have maybe been at least a couple minutes of discussion before rushing in, but it's too late now.

“Get the fuck back!” Undertaker's loud, booming voice shouts, and Dax sees a shadow over him. The man really is huge.

Swinging a fist, Dax knocks out the first Kingsmen that rushes towards him. After he's fallen to the ground, he stomps on his head until he knows he's dead. This motherfucker stands between him and Dani, and he will never walk out of here.

Venom whips by Dax in a flash with his relatively new platinum hair, and he lunges at a larger man, grabs his neck, and twists. The cracking as he breaks the man's neck hits Dax's ears, and he sees the Kingsmen fall to the ground, limp. Venom turns and begins a fist assault on another man who raised a gun towards Dax, and even though no one particularly seems to like the guy, Dax has never been happier to have him with them.

“Aim that gun at my Pres again, I fucking dare you!” Venom shouts, pushing the guy to the ground where the kitchen elevates with a step. His boot slams down on the man's neck, breaking it cleanly. “Oh, guess you won't get the chance, motherfucker.”

Colt's also beside Dax as fists fly, and it feels like a never-ending sea of men coming at them. A sea of men who separate him from his wife. The woman who has been alive for so many years, but he didn't know where she was. That she was still here.
